I know it was a joke but Yzerman knows how to build a winning team and not just on paper. Oates was a amazing play maker but didn't fit into the system at the time. If anything you have to credit the owner and GM at the time to allow him to me move on at that point of his career. One thing you can always say about the Detroit organization is they have always respected and taken care of their players during and after their careers…

When it comes to sports and competing for positions isn't about if you're good enough.. it's finding your role and place. Darren knows more than anyone. He came out of basic retirement and had to start in my hometown flint Michigan and worked his way up to be on a Stanley cup winning team. It's why I tell kids his story and what he was to the sport of hockey.

I'm super excited about all this as well, but can we please drop the phrase 'trust the Yzerplan'? Darren can say it because he played with the man. I truly do trust in Steve and have complete faith, but the phrase is cultish. Steve is only human and being so he is open for criticism. I love the deals made today. I don't even have an issue with the Chiarot signing. I don't love the terms, but like the player. Steve seen those blowouts last year and said 'Not again". Again I love the deals and love Steve as our gm. I just don't want people to think he's infallible. LGRW!!

Vladimir Tarasenko is a free agent next year. Maybe we’ll pick him up and get revenge for Adam Oates lol. Or we can go for someone like johnathan Huberdeau, or Johnathan Drouin, or even Dimitry Orlov.
This team has so much more scoring depth than last year. That will help a lot. The D has been upgrade too but not as good as the forwards. I don't think they are a playoff team, just because the playoffs teams from last year are all still pretty good and other teams improved too. But they should be much more competitive and if so, creates a better culture around the team.
Time to start showing you belong (long term) for Zadina, Hronek, Veleno, Ras (though he looked much better down the stretch last year). I’d be shocked if all 4 are on the roster by year end.

My only concern with the FA signings is that there's no roster opportunity for the prospects now other than maybe edvinsson. I'm excited to see how the final roster pans out but idk how that all fits in with the existing roster player. I guess nervous/excited but in a good way.

With so many additions the younger/lower end players on the bench at the end of last season better know they need to work their asses off during this off-season to earn a spot on this team. They don't want to end up in the minors, traded or cut loose. This is good for the whole team to incentivize a harder work ethic.
