  1. 1) Bryan Trottier-He could do everything excellently and was very tough to play against.
    2) Billy Smith-At his peak, maybe the best clutch playoff goalie ever when the game was on the line. And I do like his feistiness.
3 tie) Mike Bossy-Just fantastic what he did. One of the quickest releases.
3 tie) Clark Gillies-Excellent contributor to the Islanders at both ends of the ice and I love his toughness-particularly how he handled Dave Schultz.
    5) Eddie Westfall-Solid, important player early on when the Islanders were bad. I would have liked to see him play one more year so he would have won a cup with the Islanders to go with his two with the Bruins.

  2. Mike Bossy – The gentleman of the game – 9 straight seasons (out of total TEN I think) 50 goal plus. Crazy. My most 'hated' NYI? Gotta be Billy Smith.

  3. lol Shannon! Tavares stayed with them 10 years even though they never got him any help!

  4. Thanks for excluding John Tavares great video it was such a great team in the 80s I am excited how the team is shaping up in this generation as well with Barry Trotz at the helm my favorite player for The New York Islanders presently is Brock Nelson and my favorite in the 80s dynasty I like them all but I would have to go with Bryan Trottier. Good Video Shannon thanks again!

  5. Made me really happy to see Bailey on there. Not enough people, including most Islander fans, respect his commitment to this franchise.

  6. Isles fan whose first real memories of the Isles are in the early 90s. The Benoit Hogue, Steve Thomas, Turgeon, Vladimir Malakhov, Derek King teams. Since then, and since the Dynasty teams get so much play for the team even now because the team had been so moribund from 93-16, favorites: 10. Adrian Aucoin 9. Jason Blake. 8. Steve Thomas. 7. Roman Hamrlik 6. Ziggy 5. Cal Clutterbuck 4. Mariusz Czerkawski 3. Pierre Turgeon 2. Brian Berard 1. Kenny Jonnson

  7. What no swedes here, well nystrom is, should have played for team Sweden 81´ in world cup in Gothenburg (injured) but A Kallur, S Persson, T Jonsson and K Jonsson should make the list!

  8. Bryan Trottier, Mike Bossy, Billy Smith, Clark Gillies, Denis Potvin, Bobby Nystrom, John Tonelli, Butch Goring, Pat LaFontaine, Pat Flatley, Brent Sutter, Kenny Morrow, Bob Bourne, Pierre Turgeon and Kelly Hrudey… unfortunately I can't even get to the current Isles with my top 15 yet. I was 10 in 1983 so LaFontaine and Hrudey were my two guys. Both were young at that time. My favorite current Isles player is Casey Cizikas and he's getting close to this list. Guy is all heart.

  9. I'm confused. You didn't like the Islanders in their hay day, yet you have so many of those players up high on this list.

  10. Sorry not to get on this sooner but I'm surprised you didn't mention Stefan Persson because I remember you mentioned him a couple of years ago as your favorite Islander or, at least, favorite Islander defenseman. Also, some of the players from the early '90s teams were likable and memorable also, guys like Ray Ferraro, Steve Thomas, Pierre Turgeon, Benoit Hogue, Glenn Healy. Of course you can't name all of them but maybe one or two, especially since you were a more mature hockey fan at that point. One more thing I'd like to mention: John Tonelli didn't really have the kind of career where he was "overlooked". He was as important a player for the Islanders as any of the superstar forwards, save Bossy and Trottier, and he proved it when he went on to play for Calgary. And on those Canada Cup teams in 1984 and 1987 with Brent Sutter, they both really showed they were as good as anybody not named Gretzky or Messier. Peace.

  11. NEW YORK ISLANDERS
    HOCKEY HALL OF FAME
    INDUCTEES

    01. 1991: Mike Bossy
    02. 1991: Denis Potvin
    03. 1993: Billy Smith
    04. 1995: Bill Torrey
    05. 1996: Al Arbour
    06. 1997: Bryan Trottier
    07. 2002: Clark Gillies
    08. 2003: Pat LaFontaine
    09. 2010: Jim Devellano

  12. Bob Bourne should be on this list…NO ONE could out-skate Bob Bourne and he was clutch in the playoffs.

  13. Nice list.It might be easier if you made it players that were drafted and played 200G in the uniform. That would knock Smith, Goring and Boychuk off your list. I could easily replace those guys with Howatt, Langevin and Kaspiritus or the jersey you are wearing.

  14. I would have found a way to include Bob Bourne. Solid player. One of the fastest skaters of his era. Lots of big goals!
