Well, back in 1992, it was called a pigeon, not a robo penguin.
I have the old jersey. It has Chris Tamer's name and number, with the pigeon. I bought it in August 1995 right after I returned to Western Pennsylvania.
I see no return to the baby blue. Never liked them and they were from a losing time in the team's history.
The wordmark road Jersey was dumped for the multicolored third Jersey as the road jersey in 1996, and it was not seen again.

I find it ridiculous that the original ownership didn't like that the team was named Penguins given that I wouldn't even be a fan if it wasn't. Heck I might not have even got into Ice Hockey as a kid if there wasn't a team called the Penguins: Hockey's not all that popular here in England.
Also Robo Penguin was the logo when I fell in love with the team, as a kid I had a cap with the logo on and it screams nostalgia for me.
Having said all that… the new one is really smart and if I was in the market for a new jersey then I'd definitely consider it!
I started in the 70's, so the retro penguin is my preference. I liked the cups in the 90's but never took to the robo-penguin.
Shannon, I was hoping for a baby blue 3rd. Didnt get it. Very underwhelmed by the 3rds and speciality jerseys for this season. I hope they didnt save all the good ideas for the RR's next season. Cause that's gonna be tough to pin down. Still looking for a Kings RR
For me, the Robo-Penguin attachment is personal. It was on a generic sweater given to my father by relatives who still live in Pittsburgh, and later handed down to me. It was meaningful from around the time I first began watching hockey on a limited basis when Crosby started playing, and became much more so when my father was diagnosed with cancer about a decade or so ago, and especially when he finally died from it four years ago.
I actually don't wear it that often, both because it doesn't fit me well (I need to lose a lot of weight) but also for fear of wearing it out completely (it already has some damage because he used it for work a lot). But it is the one I tend to trot out for pictures and such on social media, both for the emotional significance and because I do like that logo better than the Skating Penguin logo (which nonetheless is on the sweater I wear whenever the Pens are on TV where I live).

More glitter on the jerseys … it would reflect the lights when directed at the stands, make it entertaining for the players every time they look up (after having missed their shot). he he he. More Snazz!!

Little thing here but the pen’s started using that steelers yellow rather then the light yellow from like 2006. I think the 05-06 jerseys that they used for a long te were the best ones
