Good interview with the star of this game and reflections on team struggles. The real contrast between the Maple Leafs who are overloaded with snipers and scoring talents and the Sharks who are cursed in scoring department and searching desperately for snipers is interesting. Scoring isn't enough to win in the NHL by itself, as Leafs are missing defence talent and goalie consistency. But this game suggests that these teams could make good trades with Sharks giving up some defence and Leafs trading some scoring. Brent Burns should have been traded to the Leafs for scoring, and both teams would have been happy.
Mike Grier is supposed to be looking to shake up the Sharks according to Hockey Insiders show on TSN, and every player on the team is available except for Hertl. That is probably an exaggeration, but maybe it is a tactic to spark the team into playing more competitively. Sharks are doing well in overtime and playing closer games with tenacity. Their team identity is still in mud shark territory, or vegan sharks, whale sharks, whatever sharks that scare no one. Their team identity will take about one third of season to emerge due to some many new faces having to solidify into effective special teams, forward lines and defence pairings. Above all Sharks new two power play lines to split the 2 minute opportunity and compete.
