Seems there are two groups of people. One that thinks Tavares sighing was awesome and another that feels it's Dubas worst mistake.
This is why I can't stand the maple laughs and their fans….the fans can't even agree on Tavares, half you think his contract is horrible and he was never worth it and the other half think he can't do wrong and his contract is cheaper than it should be 🤦 he eats up a lot of cap they could have used for an elite goalie to get them past the first Rd instead of hoping Campbell, mrazek, samsonov or Murray would fix it.

Dubas sealed the Leafs fate when they went for this guy. Matthews shoulda been captain. The salaries of the young guys woulda been smaller. And they would have money for defense. Habs fan here but i dont hate the leafs, i enjoy strong canadian teams.
Real ripple effects: caused Missie Marnie and Auston Fatthews to cry and demand $10 million + each, which led to the departure of Kapanen, Brown, Kadri and Hyman, no money to afford any good dmen, and as a result stupid fans complaining about goaltending when it was never really the issue when we had Andersen or Campbell and caused DubAss to panic and trade Sean Durzi for Fake Muzzin.
Let's not even forget that there's a good chance the players' escrow debt may not even be paid off by the end of this season and which makes the cap only jump up by $1 mil next year, which means we may not even be able to afford Samsonov and now we're stuck with Fatt Murray and Fake Muzzin unless they hit the LTIR again next year.
All thanks to Kyle DubAss, Shanny the Drunk and the worst sports ownership group in MLSE (Bell and Rogers). They've created a massive sh*tstain by trying to unnaturally rush this group into being playoff ready when we don't even have a competent front office, all starting with signing Yawn Tavares.
What a shame that Tavares has to wallow away his career in Toronto.

First PP unit with second best faceoff percentage in the league last year with great production and consistency for a second line player 5v5…still worth every penny…He's still a number one C…not his fault we still have Matthews

Since (because of?) Tavares' generous salary the home town discount was never in the cards for the Leafs. For him the sum of the parts doesn't add up (for the salary): very average skater, no track record of team leadership where it counts.

Tavares earned his contract. Nylander, Mathews and Marner did not. Not holding the line on those 3 and doing a bridge deal on their 2nd contract is the problem. That mistake has handcuffed the leafs in making the moves to put them over the top.
Kadri is twice the player for less then half the cost! Woke J.T is a joke!

No it wasn't – he was completely unnecessary at the time, and it only looks more shortsighted as time goes on. Those of us who pay attention to the Islanders were saying "be careful what you wish for" but we were shouted down and laughed out of the room, and the level of smug emanating from Toronto was at an all time high. But look at where "we can and we will" got you lololol you're handcuffed and can never properly address your problems (not that Dubious would, anyway) and it's because of this contract.

Horrible Trade Kadri is better and a Playoff type Player. I Think JT Miller trade will be just as bad. We should have traded him at his Peak . I love Tavares as a Player but toooo much money for an Aging Player.
I’ve always felt that Connor McDavid has had the biggest effect on how contract negotiations work in the modern NHL.
I remember when Connor signed that really big contract before Tavares turned down San Jose’s $13 Million per year offer to sign a less offer from Toronto. I think Connor’s contract had set the tone.

I never thought this was a good signing – when defence was weak and required huge upgrades. And a power forward like Josh Anderson would have fit in so much better. Tell me I'm wrong.
