Tldr: basically all of them said they wouldn’t panic.

I think the key line is the one exec who says that, while the Leafs shouldn’t panic, « losing to all these weak teams shows [him] they don’t have a killer instinct. »

Which has been a recurring narrative for the core, including Marner’s « I wasn’t engaged » after game 1 vs. CBJ and Shanahan’s comments after the MTL collapse. A lack of killer instinct will continue to get this team killed in the playoffs.

Our stars running horrific shooting percentages is about as sustainable as all the massive point and goal scorers so far this season. Everything will standardize out. If Matthews was at his career average S% this season he’d be second in goals and most of the guys he’d be around are running ridiculously inflated numbers

Any executive level person in any company NHL or not would have the same reaction.

The worst trait someone can have in an executive role is to panic. Or at least outwardly express panic. I think if any one came out and said “I’d be panicking if I were them” it would put up red flags for how they might handle adverse situations.

Imagine working for a company where the CEO makes outwardly knee jerk decisions because of a down month in the new year after announcing a new strategy.

My issue is our bottom 6 lacks any identity and we never addressed having size on the wings. Forget everything else this is my issue and it shows early in the season so far

It’s all about the Leafs, baby.

Ah yes, the yearly « what rival NHL execs » are saying about the Leafs story from Lebrun. Please tell me there’s a Doughty quote too! Always insightful.
