  1. I think Kane will be back. Holland would be nuts to let him go, after what Kane brought to the table, especially in the playoffs.
Aside from the bonehead play in Game 3 against the Avs, he played great for us.
We definitely need to upgrade the Goalie spot first, and then our Defense.

  2. You're right Puljujarvi,Yamamoto,Brassard,Turris,Kris Russell,Josh Archibald,Tyson Barrie and Zack Kassian.I would really look at Bobrovsky or Korpisalo.Keep Mike Smith if he can't perform anymore make him you're goalie coach.Find a way to sign Evander Kane, they wont find chemistry like that again. He is worth 7 mill a season. He is a top six and good. His personal life affected his play not a reflection on the player as beeing a problem.

  3. Good season for the Oilers–Evander Kane certainly worked out for them and I'm thinking they should keep him around. The ultimate question for them is "Who's going to play goal next season ?" It was very obvious that goaltending is the weakest link on this team.

  4. They would be nuts to sign the toxic Kane or keep him. And they might as well get rid of Kassian too if they want a shot.

  5. Id say if kane becomes are shark againthen oilers need to trade ine of yammo or jesse could work outfor both

  6. Kane has been a cancer in every organization he's been with. But he
Oilers got him at a good time this season. Kane needed the money &
needed to change the public's perception about him, not actually change
who he his (a total & complete a$$hole) just the perception, so he
played the role. That's why he was a good pick up for them. But giving
kane the money & security of a multi-year deal will only make
Evander settle back into his natural selfish, egomaniacal, douchbag
ways. Any organization that gives Kane that deal would have to have
rocks in their heads. But as a Jets fan? I say lock him up long term
    Kenny!

  7. Very good overview.

I would say a few things:
You mentioned the up and coming forwards but not rhe up and coming defenseman. Broberg and Bouchard are the future of defense in Edmonton for home grown d-men. Niemelinen is 6 foot 6 and is a big hitter. Something the Oilers needm he brings an edge and will make players think twice about coming twice with his wicked body checks. Not sure if you saw any of his 10 or so games he played this year. Then you have Samarokov which I havent seen play in the pros yet. If they do trade Barrie and they dont sign Kulak, they will be roughly where they were at the beginning of 2022 with seeing how Bouchard would do as a regular everyday player perform. With broberg and niemelinen i think the ceiling is higher then with kulak. I like Kulak and in a perfect world Ceci and Kulak are more shut down d-men similar to an adam larson. But i do see Brober and niemelinen taking over for Keith and Barrie by the end of next year. However it happens.
The unexpected loss of Klefbom 2 years ago put the Oilers in a tough situation. Considering losing Klefbom at age 27 which would be his prime – an at the time top 2 d-man and to lose him, I think Hollan did a very good job improving the defense the last 2 years. I believe they were #2 in penalty kill in 2021 for example. Losing Archibald for the entire year until playoffs hurt that penalty kill this year. Besides like 1 game in the colorado is series the Oilers PK kept them in playoff games and did a great job. Like in game 4 where they killed 11 minutes of PK time including that 5 minute major on Kane. Having Klefboms contract taken off will really help things. I didnt realize we were still paying Neal and Sekera. As a long time oiler fan I thought next year was really our year getting Koskinens bad contract out and seeing Bouchard, Broberg, yamamoto snd Mcleod be regular players. Considering getting out of these horrible Chirailli contracts but maybe its next year when we drop at least lucic and sekera. That Neal contract is horrible. We ould use another near 3 million in apending.

I did my report card on GM Holland last week for the 2022 season in review.
I gave him a B for his moves of Hyman, Foeghle and Ryan. Foeghlr was a little high of a contract for what he produced but he was pacing a career high 15 goals and could of got to 20 goals like Yamamoto did if he played more on the first 2 lines. Woodcroft favored Yamamoto more and i agree. But Foeghle could habe gotten to 20 with even a touch of power play time. But mcdavid is so good , heck he gor Letestu top 5 in power play goals in 2017 and Pat Maroon with 27 goals in 2018. Mcdavid makes everyone on his line career years lol. Chiasson in 2020 too.

So again I gave Holland a B for offense considering his cap soace at the start of 2021. (B+ if you add Kane which Im not sure was so much Holland as it was Mcdavid getitng Kane lol).
For defense I gave him a C+ for getting Keith and Kulak.
For the Goalie sitiation I gave Holland a D. He couldnt land anyone.
It is what it is. And this is the last thing I want to talk about.
Whats more likely if Smith comes back? Hes 1 year older and slower or he can get 100% and share the load equally 40 games with another goalie and see if Skinner or another goalie will be the 1a in the playoffs?
I think Koskinen should of started game 2 in colorado. He finished only giving up 1 to Colorado. Even though they were up big and playing more defensively. But he did stop like 24 of 25 shots. If koskinen plays game 2 to see if he can be a difference maker that was the game to do it. Smith was still.obviously #1 but you cant play koskinen in game 3 for the first time. So i think they missed an opportunity there.and give him 1 game. But anyways….if Smith is 100% next year he would be better then he was this year. If Oilers defense improves, Smith will also look better. Im interested to see Skinner. If he could be the key to them taking another step, that would be amazing. I like the idea of getting a #1 liek Gibson or maybe Frederick Anderson and having them omay 55 games and skinner like 25. And we see whos hotter for the playoffs.
Having Smith as a security blanket is good though. He was last year too and we have to be happy with what he did.

  8. I hope so….but knowing how hockey works, some GM will plop down an insane amount of money that the Oilers won't be able to match….UNLESS….Holland moves some pieces. He has some real decision's to make if he ever wants to go "all in." He did not this year. Trade deadline acquisition's were Kulak and Brassard. Not bad, Kulak was a regular, and did well, I hope he is back. But he did not break the bank or trade away his picks… Mikko Koskinen and his $.4.5 million a year hit has opened up. Maybe more to follow? The Oilers did well. They finished with only 2 less regular season victories than "Pacific Division Champs" Flames. They beat them 4–1 in round 2 and made it to round 3…..I won't even get into what happened THAT series, but ref's aside, the Oilers have some obvious holes to fill. Re-signing or replacing Kane is only one of his priorities on the "to do" list.

  9. I'd rather use that $$ for 2 good defensemen, but not sure how much Kane gets next year? 4 million?

  10. Edmonton NEEDS to trade Darnell Nurse his 9.25mil/season contract is ridiculous he's way over paid and not that good of a defenseman. That also frees up a lot of money for the rest of the team i.e. resign Kane possibly trade for Debrincat get some defenseman someone like Marc Staal and/or Nick Holden big defensive defenseman

  11. The only way Kane re-signs is if Keith and Smith immediately retire, and they might, and Kane takes $7 million for five or six seasons. Even at that, the Oilers would be tight against the cap, and may also need to trade of buyout Zack Kassian's deal. It's nearly impossible to keep Kane.

  12. This is the problem with Kane he has NO Loyalty to any team ! Just ask the Sharks and the Jets ? He still has a lot of baggage !

  13. Kane is all about money, Oilers will get out bid by a team with more to spend, I don't see kane giving a "home team discount"
