The only ones saying he’s wrong are those who haven’t played sports. He’s spot on, love goatthews more then anyone. But it gets to a point you gotta grow a sack. Crosby is a perfect example, pick your battles of course but at the same time don’t puss out
If Marchand did something like this, let’s not pretend like we wouldn’t be calling him out and saying it’s a bitch move. Matthews is a big boy, he can and should be able to protect himself against Konecny. If it’s someone taking a run at him behind the play or something, you want your teammates to stick up for them. But Matthews in this instance was a willing combatant in the rough stuff until Konecny wanted to go.
I love the response from Gio and Bunting but would like to see some fire from Matthews.
Imagine the narrative if Matthews gets injured by getting goaded into a fight with a pest in an already won game.
Matthews needs to learn to pick his battles! Why didn’t anyone stand up for him??

His take for 99% of the video is complaining that the rest of the Leafs have to fight Matthews’ battles for him after he initiates the skirmish with Konecny (he obviously didn’t, but whatever). Then he ends off by saying the Leafs are screwed unless they show team toughness. Complete nonsense from someone whose brain is clearly swiss cheese
Oh fuck off, he doesn’t need to waste his time tussling around with Konecny in a game that’s basically over. What value does that bring? It’s not like Matthews is a soft player, he just doesn’t have time for this after the whistle bullshit. If you want theatrics and tough-guy pissing contests go watch wrestling.
I think this was the perfect opportunity for him to let him boys fight for him to make up for recent times where he didn’t have the support. I loved it, and think next time he’ll get more involved. Totally okay with how this went down though.
