Man I havent watch your show because the Pens suck as of late. Your opening joke made my day.
Rob hit the nail on the head about Kapanen not even seeming to want to be an nhl player. The guy plays so heartless. When he was killing it with malkin in 20-21 he seemed passionate. It’s like he’s just doing it for the money and his family legacy or something…🤔
Rob Rossi mentioned about Gonchar and Paul Martin was the same way. It took him a while to figure things out when he first came here, but when he finally did he was one of the better Penguins d-men.
I do agree, I think Petry will figure things out. I think to, he has a lot of good hockey left in him.
Nice show tonight. Hoping they can turn this around but it doesn’t appear to be a quick fix. Blueger can’t return soon enough – he’s got to instantly make the b6 better. Liked your points about Hextall – not sure what he based those signings on – he should be feeling the heat & have to answer to ownership. Enjoyed your dog making an appearance too!
The Pens powerplay has gotten to the point that defenders don't challenge Letang, on the point, because they know he's not going to shoot, so they cheat out on others, trying to cut off a pass for a short-handed breakaway. Letang's turnovers, in both zones are very concerning since he has set up as many opponents for easy goals as he has teammates.
A question I have, after watching the last game, in Buffalo, is, do you think that Malkin's nursing an injury of his hands or arms? His shooting and puck handling, in the last few games, seems to be much weaker than at the start of the season. His shots don't seem to have much on them.
I don't have an issue with the fourth line, other than that they aren't getting enough ice time. They're averaging 10 to 12 minutes per game. They're the only line with a positive +/- across the board. Rakell, Zucker, and Heinen are the only other forwards in the positive.
The third line has been severely disappointing, and I agree with the sentiment on resigning Kapanen. Why resign him when there were so many better players available that signed, elsewhere, for less.
I would like to see Rakell get more PP time. He's been worth the 6 year contract given to him. I remember he was always very crafty with Anaheim, especially down low in front of the net. He does have a nice wicked shot, remember the Edmonton game when he released a wicked shot right past Jack Campbell.
Trade Kapanen for someone with wheels and heart
Re PK: The Diamond is what they're playing. They haven't played the Wedge +1 since Hagelin left.
There were a lot of excellent points made in this podcast, but the Carter negativity isn't warranted imo. I did notice him gone, contrary to what Rob said. The 3rd line got worse in his absence. They barely got ice time.
Carter has 6 points in 9 games. He's getting 67% D-zone starts, so it's kinda difficult for them to get a lot of offensive zone time. 5 goals for, 5 against at 5v5 when he's on the ice. That's fine IMO. Better than I expected going into this year from L3.
