  1. MLB would like to not say anything, also.

The same people that want this guy banned from the NHL are the same ones that want felons voting

Not at all coming to Watson’s defense, but none of that has been proven in court. It’s all alleged. Whereas Mitchell’s was proven in court. I doubt the NHL would take as strong a stance if it weren’t.

  4. Let’s not get too high and mighty here. We’re comparing a superstar quarterback to a fringe player. The NFL and Browns deserve scorn, but Let’s not pretend the NHL would be doing the same if it was a star player

I’m curious what grounds Bettman is using to say he’s not eligible for the NHL.

He meets the eligibility spelled out in the CBA to play in the NHL, and Bettman doesn’t appear to have followed Section 18-A of the CBA to discipline him for off ice conduct.

And he can’t really go back and follow 18-A because his current statements have already violated 18-A.3(e).

There doesn’t appear to be anything in the CBA that allows Bettman to just say « this player isn’t eligible ».

Be interesting how that plays out.

Man, Craig McTavish killed a woman drunk driving, and to this day is still considered an NHL good guy. Bobby Hull beat the shit out of his wife daily. The Chicago Blackhawks as a team pushed a guy to the brink of suicide. Todd Bertuzzi, on orders from team management, broke a players neck.

Let’s not go out thinking the NHL is some league deserving sainthood here.
