horvat is a PP rock star who is ordinary at 5 on 5 and can anchor a 3rd line at centre. his defensive work is average. worth 6.0 at most.

As a Jets fan everyone crapped on Maurice for not playing Heinola and Bowness is not playing him, so clearly he's not anything special.
First, neither Horvat nor Larkin are worth the crazy money they are asking. That said, I'd take Larkin over Horvat. I've never seen the hype in Horvat. He's good yes, not great. Same with Larkin, but I like Larkin's "heart" more and feel he'd be a better fit with the Wings. I could see Larkin getting 7ish. Definitely not 9mil. GMs keep handing out contracts and overpaying for mediocrity.
Ovechkin and Crosby make about what Larkin is asking for. Ovechkin has a good chance at 802 goals this season, and possibly breaking Gretzky's record in a couple seasons. Crosby is one of the premiere players in the world still. Yet Larkin and Horvat want to make what they make? Nope. I feel the same about every other overpaid player also not named McDavid. Its getting out of control imo.
I would not trade Savard since he's a hometown boy and a very good veteran in the room… Even with his great leadership, I would trade Edmundson to the West since he seems to have a rough time being away from his family right now..
I've been saying for years now that Horvat is still Vancouvers most overall important forward…

Dude Savard has been Montréals best D-man this year. 2nd overall in blocked shots in the ligue. Huge mentor to Guhle. He has value and would command huge return. He’s not causing the cap any issues.

Signing a 30 yr old JT Miller to an additional 7 years was the dumbest signing by Vancouver in years. It makes Benning look intelligent… The new management are morons and should be running a Subway Franchise not a NHL team. JT is a cancer in the dressing room and only cares about padding his stats.
Florida should be in serious talks for Dadonov reunion
Sooo…in theory the Habs trading Savard works but the reality is that theyvhave no RD depth like at all and even tho im not the biggest Savard fan (the current version) i have to admit he has been pretty good defensively for the Habs this year and on a team with 4 rookie Dmen it makes that trade pretty tough to digest. The only option is to wait until we see what the Habs are by deadline and if someone is willing to 9ffer a 1st or a 2nd that would be great.
The Canucks NEED to trade Horvat. They should have traded Miller but they didn’t and it was a huge mistake, and they are stuck with a lazy player, on an immovable contract. Picks, prospects, tanking for Bedard. Everyone besides Hughes, Petterson, and Demko should be gone for the right price, or for some literally anything to get rid of their contract and awful play. This team will never improve without a full rebuild.
Mtl cap problem will fix itself next year with more then 20 millions in expiring contracts and a cap increase of 3 or 4 mil. Paying Caufield won't be a problem and new kids will fill in the 1 or 2 spots that opens. Hope they get good return at trade deadline for the likes of Drouin, Monahan, Dadonov or even Hoffman, Savard should stay in Mtl.
Buy out or trade OEL and Myers. These guys are not 6 mil d men. Then you have like 12 mil to sign Horvat and another d man. Also Rathbone can replace one of them.
Agreed 100% on the Horvat trade. Vancouver doesn't have money to re-sign him with Hughes and Petterson coming up and they have to cash out on him cause they can't afford to let him walk as a UFA.

As a Jets fan, I could see Heinola's frustrations coming. He should have played more games last year, and it is surprising that Stanley is playing over him. After going over and seeing the Moose game up close, Heinola thinks the game at a higher level than Stanley. Half the time Stanley doesn't use his size.

Chevy hates Finnish players. He will draft them and then make sure that he will crush their spirit. He is the worst part of the Jets organization. even worst then Wheeler.
I expect Filip Zadina to get traded by the off-season. What kind of Steve Yzerman wizard-like trade move could you see involving Filip Zadina? Would it be a trade involving a swap of players/prospects needing a change of scenery, or will it involve Filip Zadina being traded for a mid-late 1st round draft pick, or possibly a Steve Yzerman move involving Detroit's 2023 1st round draft pick added with Zadina to move up in the draft?
Trading Savard is not going to happen . The Habs must get rid of one or more forwards.
