Would’ve been nice to get Halak some help in his best game so far

  2. Humble-Koala-5853

Trouba not gaining any fans tonight.

I liked Goodrow last year. This year, not so much.

Trochek is a huge upgrade from Strome but doesn’t feel like he’s gelled with anyone yet.

I can’t believe this team has better advanced stats than last year. Goes to show you how much those matter. All the possession and shots in the world don’t matter if they’re right into the goalie with no rebounds.

  3. Kbb0509

At least they’re playing shitty now and not in March, there is still time to figure it out and get better.

I’m here for the spicy hot takes

It’s not panic mode yet, tons of teams are sputtering early(St Louis, Washington, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Calgary, etc) but there’s reasonable concern to be had with the structure of the team, specifically the d pairs and bottom 6.

  6. the_mair

Good thing we have the Islanders next who are notoriously easy to play against and never bring their best for the Rangers

  7. crabapplesteam

Goal stolen by refs. Goal given away by refs. Score is literally 3-2 the other way if those two things don’t fuckin happen.

Edit: don’t know why there are downvotes here – that play when the redwings knocked off their own net can be called a goal in a lot of circumstances, including this one.

  8. obvioussponge06

The offense will figure it out. This team is too talented to shoot at a 2% clip for more than 2 months of a season.

  9. PanarinGoalSandwich

If every loss is OT the team makes the playoffs. I would love last year’s killer instincts, but I’ll take the point every single time.

  10. septembers-very-own

This team…looks exactly the same as it did at this point last year. Mind you, last year they had that horrendous Canadian road trip where they blew the 2-0 lead to Vancouver and lost in OT, got McDavid’ed and lost in OT, then got piledriven by Calgary.

Double agent Michigan fan here. We were equally nervous about Ned as you guys were about Halak going into this game. In my opinion, a very redeeming performance out of both. Genuinely felt bad for Halak at the end there. Still walking away with a point though. Hoping the momentum sticks for Halak.

Hi I’m ExplosiveButtFarts and I’m running for NYR head coach.

I promise to keep Kreider on the 4th line.

I promise to have the boys run gassers until they pass out every night.

I promise to put Kakko out in OT instead of Kreider because I actually watched the game.

I promise to scream « SHOOOOOT » all game because somebody’s gotta let them know when to shoot the puck.

A vote for ExplosiveButtFarts is a vote for victory.

I was thinking about this earlier but didn’t wanna say it during the game, because we know the Rangers right now are not playing very good hockey. But I don’t think this team peaked early, I think it’s probably more likely that our ECF run last year came a year or so early and this team probably is in line with where they should be, if not for that run. Let’s say for the sake of argument that the Rangers had lost in the first round last year, I think people (me included) would have much more patience this year. Would this still be considered an underperforming start if not for the run basically?

  14. It’s honestly like a major portion of this group is like happy the rangers are underperforming so they can validate their complaining.

Why not just be a fan and hope this is a dry spell that the team will overcome?

  15. thepawneeraccoon

Crazy thought – we play in a period that isn’t the first?

  16. jkman61494

I mean. This team just flat out sucks even strength. As long as the opponent can neutralize a few guys in the upper 6, the team is basically hopeless.

Advanced stats can get bent when we aren’t scoring. I’m glad Laffy and Kakko have heat zones. But until they can actually produce consistently, it doesn’t really mean much.

And I know it’s just the 4th line, but Carpenter can really go the way of Dryden Hunt for all I care. He just offers absolutely nothing

With all that said. I don’t know how a Red Wing can be dry humping Kreider along the boards for 6 seconds when the puck is leaving the offensive zone, yet Miller somehow gets called for holding when he and his opponent get all tangled up. Inexcusable officiating

  17. thepawneeraccoon

We’ve had way too many OTs for a month in. Please consider this to be my petition for OT to be settled in bare knuckle boxing

  18. Kbb0509

I’m bummed for Halak he played his best game as a Ranger so far and we let him down.

  19. Was at MSG tonight. Lot of mental mistakes. Guys running into each other, bad penalties. Don’t know what happened during the first intermission, but the team came out *so* flat in the second. You could tell by the way they came out of the locker room. It was Chytil and Halak coming out hard, then a good five seconds before anyone else joined them. I know Reavo isn’t great, but he keeps the energy up in the locker room and I think this team needs a motivator.

  20. relative_iterator

Laf looked good the first few games of the season but lately he doesn’t look like a top 6 player at all.

  21. FoghornLeghorn99

Refs sucked no question, but they need to have a wider gap there and not have that brutal second.

    Miller looked brutal in OT.

Gallant can’t deploy Zib on faceoffs in OT, just can’t.

Kakko should have been on instead of Kreider, I’m tired of Kako playing so fucking well and not getting extra time, 3 on 3 OT where possession is paramount is the time to do that.

I can’t wait to review the film on the OT goal, Trouba was baffling, the 2nd goal against is also a rager.

I feel for Halak he was awesome, the only way to blame him is eating lead based paint chips for a decade.

This team found way to win last year, this year it feels like they find ways to lose. They can fix it, but there’s work to be done.

  22. Pleasure doing business 🙂 See ya Thursday!

    //jeez tough crowd

  23. Considering standings at Thanksgiving are usually predictive of which team make the playoffs, I’d say for the next couple of weeks it’s important for the Rangers to turn their game around.

  24. BasicLiftingService

I know the advanced stats have looked good all year, but my eye test has jived with the game outcomes, not the advanced stats. Tonight was exactly what I was afraid it would be, a soft looking team that only played 20 minutes of hockey.

I’m genuinely starting to believe that there’s a reason for this, though. The team is to top heavy after moving Kakko and Lafreniere up. There’s no two first lines and the kids line any more, there’s two first lines and two fourth lines. It’s to easy for opposing teams to throw everything they’ve got against Mika’s and Bread’s lines and just ride out, or take advantage of, the third and fourth line.

Chytil is back, hopefully Kravtsov is back soon and can stay healthy and contribute. I’ll reserve judgement until that point. But honestly, I have not been having fun to start off this season. Shit’s frustrating AF.

  25. Gallant was asked why Jones didn’t play in the 3rd (i.e. if he was hurt or if it was a benching) and he literally said « Murphy runs the D, i don’t think it was physical »

not sure if he’s just covering but that’s pretty concerning to play an entire period intentionally playing down a D man and not having any idea why

  26. 8teamparlay

This team is once again going to need to add scoring at the deadline. What is going on?

  27. UsedToBeBradfordTwo

The Rangers could probably take a lesson from the immaculate vibes of the Giants and Jets right now. Last year when nobody expected them to be good they were having the best time and they knew they could comeback against any opponent. Maybe the pressure of just getting back to the playoffs to go on a big run is getting them overwhelmed. Like they just want to fast forward through the regular season

  28. thebigpleb

I think it says something when kakko has 2 of the 3 even strength goals for the top line zib has none.
