old school poke check is when the goalie lunges completely forward with the stick, making the goalie vulnerable to getting completely deeked out. Old School poke checks don't work in the new NHL. He actually swept his stick to the side which is the reason it worked, and that the forward was skating at such a high speed reducing his reaction time. Great save, curious to see if he'll try this again in the near future when teams may be expecting this from him!!
