  1. I was a Maple Leaf Gardens security supervisor and mingled with all the Leaf legends just prior to them walking onto the ice one last time on February 13th 1999. I took selfies with Salming, Sittler, Frank Mahovlich, Johnny Bower, Billy Harris etc etc. Still have the photos that I’ll treasure forever.🙂

  2. Maybe Dubas should watch some video of Salming and gain an understanding of what Competitiveness looks like! His Team lacks it in so many ways!

  3. I'm not sure if those who weren't around at the time appreciate what it meant for a Swede to come over to play when Salming did. It took a special person to be able to do that, not just physically tough but mentally, also. I could go on. More astounding in that this forward thinking came out of the Ballard era– maybe the only time something like that happened in all those dark years. As a fan, the one thing that sticks out in my mind isn't specific plays, but the feeling of "safety", and anticipation of a great play whenever the puck was on his stick.

  4. Don’t worry. Leafs will get healthy against Canucks. Everybody gets healthy against Canucks

  5. They got the 4th line looking good 3rd line isn't working yet and gotta spilt Matthew's marner there just not looking good together 5v5 something off with Matthew's right now

  6. I grew up in the 70s watching salming toughest swed ever to play I watched the game when he took the skate to the face

  7. I'm 54, when I was a kid playing hockey (defence) everyone blocked shot and called it pulling a Borjee. Obviously after Borje Salming. We one of my favourite Leafs defencemen and have to say it choked me up last night watching the pregame ceremonies. Heartbreaking. He was so good. You missed out if ya weren't there to see him play.

  8. They couldn’t even play/win for the hall of fame inductees. This team is never going to win anything. Period.

  9. Salming's skate to the face happened while playing the Red Wings in November 1986, from Detroit's Gerard Gallant skate Though Philly was guilt of a lot of bullying and attempts to injury usually with a gang of their players on one individual ….that injury was not their doing..Henning of NYI in the 78 playoffs put him out of the Roger Nilsson Leaf team that was built for the playoffs was bad too. shy I really miss those guys …

  10. Borje has more heart than the whole current leafs team combined, they have nothing close to what he was or Sittler, McDonald, Sundin and Belfour for the matter. They had 4 shots on goal in the 3rd period, this team needs some new players. Unfortunately, the GM is in love with all of them and won't do it. This team needs some big changes starting at the top

  11. They’ve been making the same mistakes with this group for how many years now? And you think now they’ll clean it up ? Matthew’s has disappeared too.

  12. Yeah, free speech shouldn't be a thing and all Canadians should just continue to let the CBC announce all their opinions to them forever.

  13. "Some People think I'm just a Leaf Homer"
That is because you are, Steve. We call it like we see it

  14. Hey Steve , I’ve got a copy of a hockey illustrated from 1981 that I would like to give you. It’s got an article about Borje Salming. How do I get it to you ?

  15. I don’t think ur a homer or to negative I think u make honest opinions. Which is good behind objective is. Good

  16. On the bright side, they play the Canucks tonight. Not a bad second half of a back to back schedule to have..

  17. True story….my mom (god rest her soul) waited in line in Pickering to get Börje Salming's autograph (about 3 hours I think)….anyway, she met him…nice guy – blew his mind and started talking to him in Swedish. Lovely man. I watched him growing up. Still have the pic of them. About a year later, stage 4 cancer wrestled and took my mom. The story here is my mom is Estonian. Due to WW2,Germany was making it's way through and she (with my grandmother and aunt) had to leave (Russians took my grandfather). So young, walking over the dead,Luftwaffe strifing everything – they gave all the had to get on a tugboat to Sweden. Only boat that got out of the harbour. On arrival,my developed diphtheria and was isolated from what was left of our family. She not only had dad taken away in the middle of the night, now had the rest of our family due to illness. She was a fighter – beautiful woman, strong and died a Leafs fan (which she claimed due to me). She would tell me NHL rules I never knew – that good. We met Jesse and his mom Marilyn at our shopping haunt Summerfields at Scrabrough Town Center once. Mom introduced herself because she loved her show (I was the long haired dick that never said anything). The fight Börje is going through, had she lived, would be by his side. Sadly, like my mom….it's just borrowed time. I would give to ALS before Cancer (never a nickle from me). I grew up watching him. Yeah,a born in /67 kid. He looked bad but,I smiled and cried seeing him (on tv). Helluva man/person/spirt. I felt her here with me. Sorry I'm blabbering….Luv yah Börje. Great job Steve on the chairity. I wish you and everyone the best. So cool meeting Ray I bet. God bless you all.

  18. This game was the one game I could care less if they won or got blown out of the building. Salming was not only the by far and away the best leafs dman of all time he is an even better man off the ice. I had the pleasure of meeting him when i was in my teens and he was such a nice person and seemed to really care about everyone he talked to. Now in the fight of his life still pure strength and class.
