  3. As a Black kid growing up in Western NY in the 70s I was introduced to hockey.
What a privilege it was to have seen Borje Salming bring finesse of European hockey to North America.
He took alot from the goons not only from Philadelphia but Boston and other teams.
I am 59 years old now and was blessed to see the transformation of such a wonderful sport which Borje played a major part.
This was a great tribute may Yah (God) bless you and your family!

  4. Remembering as a kid, watching my dad infront of the tv, watching cheering Börjes games. my father who also died of ALS 2017.
    Börje, a real hero!

  5. Beautifully done, Leafs Nation. Hockey truly it the greatest game.

  6. Moments like that make you forget about all the nonsense in the world right now. That felt great. God bless him!

  7. Least he didn't die at 30 yrs old. 71 is ok. But he def looks 100. RIPOWER, WHEN UR TIME COMES. I have 4 of your cards.

  8. That is how you show a legend how much he means to a club and its fans! Beautiful! 😭

  9. How the hell do you play a hockey game after that? Amazing thank you video to him. Doesnt matter that he is a swedish player. He is a toronto maple leaf forever

  10. My favourite Leaf ever! I often pretended to be him while playing street hockey. God bless you, Borje. Thank you for everything you've contributed to hockey and to your communities where you've lived.

  11. Swede and Habs fan here. The entire nation stands with this remarkable man. And it doesnt matter who you ask many have a tear in their eyes when they see what the Lou Gehrigs desease has done and are doing to him. Im glad Maple Leafs realised we are short on time for this celebration. The way the desease are progressing i doubt Borje will be with us in the hockey community this time next year.

  12. I'm not crying, you're crying. Love and respect from a Habs fan

  13. A lot of comments here from people who have had friends and family afflicted with this horrible disease. My heart goes out to each and every one of you.

  14. Another great personality' hockey player' that was pummeled by goons in the game' A very touching moment' brought tears to my eyes'

  15. I'm a Mtl fan that hates Toronto but those kind of things makes hostilities breaks.
Got tears seeing all of this tonight. I truly appreciate the work of the Maple Leafs on that one.

Courage to all of you living hard times. Whatever team is yours.

  16. Tack Börje för allt du har gjort. Du har inspirerat så många knattar till börja lira hockey. Denna sporten hade inte var densamma utan dig.

  17. im a Habs fan and I want to cry, so sad to see him like this but also so good to see how many appreciate him, beautiful and touching

  18. I met him 2010 in a hockey camp during the summer. He is for sure most humble person i’ve ever met of hockeyplayers.. such a human and fighter!

  19. As a Toronto kid playing minor hockey in the late 70's Borje was my idol , the sweep check, the skating , the passion, this was very emotional for me to watch your hero in this way what a terrible disease, Borje will always be the King , he was our Bobby Orr, I don't think there ever will be a Maple Leaf that wore the Toronto Maple Leafs jersey with so much class, well done to the Leafs for this special very well deserved honor, man I am choking up watching this ,

  20. Well done Leafs! Amazing presentation for on of the greats! This guy was a true warrior! Welcome home borje! H will always be a leaf and to still hold records proves the player he was

  21. As a hockey crazy swede my father woke me up in the middle of the night for the canada cup 76 matches. Ive never forget the standing ovations Borje got before the US an Canada games.
I think Borje did for hockey what Björn Borg did for tennis in sweden, every kid wanted to be Borje Salming when we played street hockey

  22. He wasn't the first European to play in NHL, he wasn't even the first Swede.. but he definitely was the European player to break the ground for scouting for players in Europe. You can't really overestimate his impact on the league and how tough he is.

  23. I dont really like the leafs due to their fans booing all the time, but they did a great job this time.

  24. Very touching. I was surprised tho people would just stand and drink their beer instead of clapping and saluting this legend. I thought roof was gonna blow, but it didn't…

  25. 8 million swedes and so many great swedish players… Börje Salming, Pelle Lindbergh, Henrik Lundqvist, Mats Sundin, Peter Forsberg, Niklas Lidström. Henrik Zetterberg, maybe becouse in Sweden it's dark 6 months a year. we got lot's of small ice rinks
