  1. You can either have a team dependent on one superstar since everyone’s development was ruined by building a culture of losing or you can build a deep team with multiple stars like Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Ghule and Xjakaj.

  2. Caufield-Suzuki-Dach have 49 points in 15 games while all being 23 and under. Why ruin their confidence and enjoyment in the game/team by tanking when they have the core to be a competitor in 2-3 years.

  3. For me Sean Farrell is the most intriguing. I havent't seen him play besides the highlights so I can't wait to watch what he can do at a high level.

  4. Tanking for more "generational" or "foundation" players usually causes CAP problems down the road.
I am not suggesting that getting a Bedard etc… to add to a team like this is bad, because it is most certainly not, BUT… one day, maybe even as quickly as the team may be approaching their peak, you can find that you can't fit ALL of these guys under the cap.
As a result, you keep doing what you are doing. You keep developing, you keep getting better, and if you are winning faster than you thought, you only encourage and RUN with that.
    Winning is the whole point.
    The ultimate goal.
    Never discourage winning.
Winning is an attitude, a belief, a concept, a "culture" that can take years to develop and instill.
It is way too important to jeopardize for any one player.
Being too good a team to be able to draft a kid like Bedard is something a team should be proud of, not lament.
    Stay the course Habs.
This brand of hockey you are playing is exciting, skillful, physical, emotional and some of the most fun we have had as fans in years, which is saying something as we are not far removed from a recent Cup run and being one of two teams left standing in the end.
Never think tank. Never think LOSE. It feels even more ridiculous to even consider as I am writing this.
    Go Habs Go!!!

  5. It's good to win – are you going to play bad enough to get into the top 3 ? 4-12 are still probably above normal NHL draft talent –

  6. Willingly tanking is inviting disaster… Ottawa with D'aigle, Buffalo and Eichel/Mcdavid, Edmonton for a good stretch of time… better create a winning mind set than set a mindset where losing is okay as you still get paid at the end of the day.

  7. We see it 4-5 years after a draft. There's damn near always players that are picked well beyond top 5 that end up better then the top players. Do I want beddard? Sure. But I also want to beleive that this management and their scouting department can find ways to target high end value with mid to late picks.

If I had to pick an organization to base my scouting off I think it'd be Dallas and Tampa.

  8. In a word yes…win but lose more. BTW, can anyone explain the logic of keeping Slaf with the big Club? This makes no sense at all!! The future looks so bright BUT be patient!!! Do the right thing and put Slaf in a position to succeed. INVEST in his future!!!

  9. We still have beck, roy and mesar playing in the juniors… and we have lots of great defense that are pushing for a team spot. So yeah even if dont get a top 5 we are still good prospect wise

  10. I understand people who wishes for the first overall pick but I don't agree with losing. Winning is the best experience for those kids. That's how they grow their skills and confidence. We don't want a losing culture also.

  11. There are ways to move up in the draft some teams have F all for prospects and picks. Especially after this years trade deadline we will have even more picks and Kent Hughes has said he isn't afraid to try and move up the board. Plus we are gonna be able to make a splash in free agency with our cap issues pretty well taken care of next season. GHG from PEI

  12. Why would you want to instill a losing mentality with a young team for maybe a chance at the number one pick. They have a good core of youth both on the team and in the minors. Yes they will make mistakes probably won't make the playoffs but they will learn and get better, not to mention they are fun to watch as opposed to last year where imo just went through the motions.

  13. Let's not forget that tanking does not guarantee 1st overall pick and can also be tough on the development and morale. So no, they don't want to tank and neither does anyone that truly like the franchise.

  14. Habs are doing something much more valuable and important than loosing to get a player that MIGHT contribute : Building a winning culture with a solid core of young players. Who cares about a 17 years old that is burning a junior major league.

  15. They are building the right team culture, which is something that will carry them waaay further than having one star player. You need a whole club to win. Increasing the value of our current assets to get more picks and build the future. At some point players are going to want to come to mtl the way things are going so yeah not worried at all.

  16. Years ago, players would have utterly resented anybody suggesting that they should tank games in order to position themselves for a draft. I expect many players today still feel the same way.

Likewise, I grow annoyed when people talk about it as if it were actually a serious contender in the marketplace of ideas.

Tanking…throwing games…this is cheating. It is engineering a fraudulent outcome that circumvents the intended competition.

You cannot tank a young team who believes in themselves without taking that away from them – it is betrayal at the highest order and WILL INCUR serious erosions to morale, confidence, and attitude. This is such a basic principle in elite sports, I'm not sure why it necessitates discussion.

It's ridiculous beyond words that it would be anything other than a good thing for the Habs to be having early success even without all the pieces they thought (or think) they needed.

Conversely, there is NO WAY anyone will EVER convince me that 'tanking' is something that winners do.

  17. They have two first rounders in next year's draft and will likely pick up a 3rd. I think they will be ok. On a side note, how great is Kirby Dach. What a playmaker

  18. Tanking culture can poison a team for years to come. You don't need 1st overall draft picks to win cups, you need a good TEAM.

Buffalo tanked for McDavid in 14-15, didn't even get him, and have been bad ever since
The Oilers have had 4 1st overalls since 2010, they have one WCF run to show for it.

Meanwhile, all cup-winning teams have been a result of good drafting, prospect development and asset management as well as finding the right coach. You don't do any of that by tanking. The Habs have Caufield, Suzuki, Dach, Slafkofsky, Guhle, Xhekaj AND MORE to come. Chances are that making the team purposefully bad would only turn Montreal into another Buffalo at this point.

    P. S. You don't need top 5 picks to draft good players either

  19. This team has the attitude you need for this league. Losing and waiting for a draft pick to save you won't work if that player steps into a a team carrying a losing mentality. I think it works much better with a positive team when a young player steps in with no pressure and allows that winning ,hardworking confident team ethics to sink in right off the bat.

  20. I can’t agree with this I am a die hard but barely missing the playoffs by 2 points and finishing in no man’s land is absolutely unacceptable in my mind that’s the last place you would ever wanna finish this year stop with this non sense man we have hot tendys and a super hot top line just wait there is no way we sustain this be honest with yourselves habs fans this early season success is nothing but smoke and mirrors like think about what you are saying right now yes winning is good
But THIS IS NOT PART OF THE PLAN and if you want this team to be a real contender in the future your cheering for the team to slowdown and know that a inevitable slope is coming and just because “tanking” is frowned upon doesn’t mean it’s not the right thing to do this season we would be stupid to try and contend for playoffs who fucking cares not like we winning a cup so why bother you can’t have your cake and eat it too this is part of the problem and why we have been mid for so long fans wanna win and still expect long term sustained success but that doesn’t happen without a couple years of losing and high draft picks look at colorado and tampa bay they were bad for soooooo long and now look at them I want that level of greatness back to back sick of being a middle of the pack team islets time montreal dominates the whole league and we are not ready for league dominance yet so every fan needs to slow down think about the big picture and be happy once we start losing because I’m telling you it’s inevitable
look to the future for greatness and don’t get ahead of yourselfs 🤦🏽‍♂️

  21. You don't want to rebuild the team by losing. It creates a bad environment for the younger players on the team.

  22. Look at Detroit they never finished last and they won the Stanley cup in 1998 2002 and 2008

  23. I laugh at the head-up-their-ass critics and armchair coaches who say that they Habs won't make the playoffs.
The way they are playing…they're going to shock many come the end of the season. Who gives a shit about
next season? We need to win NOW.

And as for those who say that it's good to lose…good thing you're not coaches.
You think the Habs of the 50's, 60's and 70's would think like that? No, they wouldn't
because they had pride in the team and wanted to win…like they do now.

  24. It's good. We are 2nd best in the division. Suzuki is a monster. Oh yeah Slavkosky will only grow!!

Let's cheer against the Panthers and win the draft with their pick.

Our #1 D man has been out.

We have serious depth. Suzuki and Caufield and Dach cancel out Matthews, Marnier and that other guy. We're going to take 2nd

  25. I started the year with a desire to tank and get a top 4 pick, but I think we are too good to get that right now. My wish now is for Caufield, Suzuki, Dach, Guhle, Slaf and other young guys too keep developing and producing for the team.

  26. The first line is a baddard line already we don't need him if we have 3 of them in the first line plus our young d men are beasts

  27. Suzuki said this team was going to surprise a lot of people. Well, surprise! They're not tanking. So far they have 11 picks, two 1st round. They're going to play to the best of their abilities and try to create value in veteran players to trade off for draft picks. Development and progress doesn't happen by tanking.

  28. Mesar, (as much as I dislike the pick, he is playing very well) Mailloux, Ylonen, Ferrall, Kidney, Cedrick Guindon (4th round pick in the 2022 draft that has 24 points in 17 games in the OHL) are some of my Favourites rn, quite a few people have fizzled out though, Mysak, Norrlinder, Stuble, Ty Smilanic, Fairbrother(injury)
