I was wrong in my last post. They went to this version for the 90-91 season which was the first Cup win. 89-90 season had a different version. There may have been an even older version then that but the one on this page is not the original. YouTube search "Penguins vs Islanders Nov 18 ,1989". You will hear a much different version in the beginning and in my personal opinion, that one was the best version. It's also impossible to find these days.
in the penguins top ten greatest games DVD this plays in the menu and in the background it shows penguin highlights . but this DVD was made in 2007 before they won the cup in 2009.
The puck comes loose and Lemieux picks it up. He soars through center. Gets between the defenseman, breaks in on goal, HEEEEEEEEE SHOOTS AND SCORES!! He beat Jon Casey like a rented mule! Boy was I lucky to get to watch these early 90s pens teams as a little kid. They got me hooked and I've been watching ever since. I got to watch my team win 4 Stanley Cups. Not many people can say that.
Mike Werley where I'm from I saw my team win 8 Cups in my lifetime, and was too young for 4 more. Now, not too many people can say that Montreal fans were spoiled silly with 15 Cups between 1956 and 1979!!! That was then, and Habs are still, the last canadian team to win that elusive Stanley Cup. Sad.
Fun story about this song from my own personal experience. I went to the last 2 games at the old Mellon Arena and they played this song at the latter of the 2 before the start of every period. I may not be a fan of the team anymore, mostly because JR is destroying their future, but I do enjoy the older days

Sorry folks, but this isn't the original version. The original is from the 80's. They didn't change to this one until after they won their first cup.
