  1. Matthews and Tkachuk are best friends. So the Leafs are possible. Just don't think we have the cap space to pull it off unless you could send Muzzin back the other way in the deal with Nylander.

  2. I hope he goes to the sabers because they need a guy just like Matthew but I see new york getting him for a 1st 2nd and kakko

  3. Below is one possible way Ottawa could manage cap space if they wanted to get Tkachuk while sending DeBrincat to Calgary. Of course, my bet is Ottawa wouldn't do this at all, but below is one suggestion of how it might be done.

First off, Ottawa faces a possible cap hell.
While this year Ottawa will be okay, next year Ottawa will face a possible cap crunch nightmare.

    How so?

    (a) Why Ottawa's cap hit this year is fine:

    (i) Ottawa's current cap hit is $70.8 million. This cap hit includes a $6.4 million hit (to account for DeBrincat's cap hit). However, If he got traded and Tkachuk agreed to a $9 million AAV deal then Ottawa's cap hit would rise by an additional $2.6 million (equalling Tkachuk's cap hit of $9 million minus DeBrincat's $6.4 million cap hit). Ottawa's new cap hit now goes to $73.4 million.

(ii) Ottawa also has to sign 3 RFAs this year – Brannstrom, Formenton and Joseph. Presuming they sign for a total AAV of $6 million then Ottawa's new cap hit rises to $79.4 million.

    (b) Why Ottawa faces a cap crunch next year:
Next year, Ottawa has to sign Stutzle as a RFA. With the team's total salary cap at $82 million, it means the Sens only have $2.6 million of cap space left.
To make this work Ottawa could either:
    (i) Ditch some of their UFAs which could include Talbot, Hamonic, Zub and Watson while replacing these guys with some of Ottawa's younger corp playing in Belleville, or,
    (ii) Backload Stutzle's contract.

Assuming Stutzle's contract would cost between $5 million to $6.5 million AAV (using Batherson as a comparable), the Sens might have to find another $4 million of cap space.

How do they do that? Below is one possibility:
    (a) If Sogaard develops well then he could take Talbot's spot, saving $2.74 million.
    (b) If a Belleville player took Watson's spot then another $0.6 million could be saved.
    (c) Also, in re-signing the older Dmen, Hamonic and Holden, the Sens could see if another $0.5 to $1 million could be saved. As older and less effective players they may be open and agree to a drop in their future salaries. Alternatively, it is possible that if Thomson happened to be NHL-ready by that time, he could outright take Holden's spot, saving the Sens another $0.4 million.

  4. William Nylander for 2 years at just under 7 with a pick or a prospect for Matthew Tkachuck. William Nylander will sign long term in Calgary and play with Backlund. The heavy Scandinavian presence could be the answer for the Flames.

  5. The Chucks are horrible. Spoiled brats. Leafs wouldn't want that in the locker room. They are both going to St. Louis eventually.

  6. As a Flames fan I hope we don’t screw up again and have to trade Lindholm

  7. He could possibly be traded to Ottawa or St.Louis if they can sign him to a 8 year extension.

  8. if matthew does get traded to the leafs which is like 5% or not even he slides up their with mattews and marner rejoins JT which actually would be great but another 9 mill player to the leafs aint happening

  9. Steve Y. is taking the best course—-nothing. Why pay for something you can get for free next year.

  10. He is not going to any Canadian teams and your thinking Toronto for what ? They have no cap and the players you think, why would any team want them

  11. matt t. to blues. isles first ('24) to blues for tarasenko. kyrou, blues first from isles, beau to flames. isles get a second from flames.

  12. Too Bad Buffalo isn't on the list, they got the money and the assets. He is a player the Sabres desperately need toom sucks.

  13. VGK – Karlsson & Theodore
    STL – Kyrou, Krug & 1st
    NYI – Barzal & 1st
    OTT – Stuztle, Bernard-Docker, 1st & Boucher
    NJD – Hischier & Holtz
NYR – Lafreniere, Kakko, 1st, Chytil

im expecting an underwhelming return though

  14. If you’re a Calgary fan I’d just throw my hands up and say I give up. They just lost their two best players.

  15. If I’m Calgary and Toronto is interested in Tkachuk any deal starts with Marner why would Calgary move a stud for nothing

  16. As a Leafs fan I would love Tkachuk but I don’t think he wants to play in Canada. If he was interested then Leafs would likely have to part with Nylander, Kerfoot, a prospect like Robertson and a middle draft pick

  17. False reports circulated about Tkachuks destinations. Speculative info based on old crap from seasons passed that was walked back yesterday. The list Tkachuk gave Treliving read like this "I'll only extend long term with St.Louis". There may be bluffing and posturing to try and drive up the price, but Treliving is screwed. The return for Tkachuk will shock alot of people, it will be a haul but not nearly what people are expecting. Flames fans will combust and Treliving will be fired even though it's not really his fault. I've got a better source than any of these silly writer and radio talking heads.
