After his article in the Player Tribune, it was nice to see his love for the city is still there. Wish we could make it work but I agree, it's just not the right fit.

I disagree. More than anything We need defensemen who can facilitate the break out. I haven't watched Karlsson recently but if he's still got poise and smarts with the puck in the defensive zone he is worth it at ~55% of his salary. Zub Chabot and Sanderson are our only effective defencemen when trying to clear the puck out of the d zone in a timely manner. Holden, brannstrom, harmonic, jbd, and larrson are woefully inept in making smart simple plays to break out of the d zone when theres any kind of pressure. Our forwards also bungle the puck at our blue line way too much too but that's probably a separate issue.
Plus His offensive skills will benefit our PP because Chabot is proving that he's not the ideal QB (plus he's currently injured). Chabot hasn't shown that he has the shot or the deception to consistently generate points on the PP. If this rejuvenated Karlsson is the real deal i would love having Sanderson Chabot and Karlsson as options. Brannstrom has to go.
Plus the vibes would be immaculate. I WILL buy a Karlsson jersey if he comes back. Having Karlsson back just feels right.
The only thing making me hesitate is the return. If sanjose is happy to get rid of most of the contract for a modest return i would jump on it. But if Karlsson has raised his value so much that they expect legitimate value, it's not worth it. I'd offer brannstrom and maybe some 2nd round picks or something if they retained ~45%.
With the salary cap going up drastically over the next few years we should be able to afford most of our key remaining pieces.
Eric is probably a better fit with a big Stanley cup contender.

Ek – Sanderson and Chabot – Zub as a top 4 would be pretty deadly. If the Sharks retain 50% and take Zaitsev it can definitely work cap wise, but i don't know if the cost would be worth it.
