  1. If we've learned anything from this, it's not the coach that is the problem. The problem is that the defence is awful, the forwards aren't coming back to help (see: JT Miller) and where Thatcher Demko was covering for all these mistakes last year and before, now he's just been average, and average isn't good enough for this team. They need Top 3 goaltending like they got last night against LA. Bruce is playing the correct style for this team, but it doesn't always work because guys like Miller turn the puck over at the worst possible times with lazy passes and then they quit on the play once they don't have the puck anymore. That was going on when Travis Green was the coach, too, but when Bruce took over, Thatcher went on a hot streak, and that was the difference. This team can't win with mediocre goaltending, with any coach. And now that Miller just got a massive contract, there's no way he's going to change his M.O. because it got him all that money. There's no incentive to change. My guess is that ownership read the tea leaves wrong, saw the 99 points and said, well, we have to keep this guy, and demanded he be resigned. Trevor Linden left the team because of moves like this and it's continuing. My guess is that Rutherford went to ownership and told them what needed to be done, and ownership insisted on beefing up the offence and going for the playoffs against Jim's advice, so Jim said, fine, we'll try it your way, and if it doesn't work, I'm doing it the way I think it needs to be done. Unfortunately, very few teams have the cap space to take on these bigger contracts, and those that do will want a sweetener. It took a 2nd to get rid of Dickinson. It's not that easy anymore to get a decent return for these guys, which is why Miller was resigned. Ownership saw the offers and gave the order. They should have done a proper rebuild. Now, the longer this drags out, the more pain it's going to cause for the franchise.

  2. Positive fan reaction last night makes it obvious that getting rid of Coach Bruce would be a dumb move. As to Tochet…why on earth would he even want to come to Vancouver?? Management/Ownership has an abysmal record when it comes to backing their coach. Rutherford and those other fools should be happy that Bruce is being patient with them…
