In three on three overtime you cannot change on the fly until your team has possession of the puck.
With possession of the puck you can wait for the change to be completed.. The Sharks went from 3 on 3 hockey to handing the Canucks a 3 on 2 scoring opportunity, and they did.

I'm sorry but the Sharks announcers are just so bad. They seem bored out of their minds any time the away team has the puck and always announce an away goal with a bored, monotone voice. Is this just normal american sports broadcasting? Because it's one thing to be a homer; there's no shame in rooting for the home team, but it's another thing entirely to instantly become so disinterested with calling the play any time the away team has the puck.
American NHL broadcasting is just awful.
