Crazy actually thought 5v5 we played pretty well. Lots of offensive zone time, shots and chances. The corsi for % and expected goals backs this up but when you play a highly skilled team and you don’t finish they’ll make you pay. Murray was good. Husso probably wants the marner goal back but letting marner and Matthews get shots from the slot is not a recipe for success. Power play was disappointing. The boys fought the whole game. On to the next.

    Corsi for %

    Wings 1st: 75%

    2nd: 58.33%

    3rd: 75.86%

Wings outplayed the Leafs but Husso had a bad night. A little puck luck would have been nice too…

  3. Xtreme05

I blame the reverse retro jerseys.

  4. ImHully

That’s all the proof I need. These jerseys are cursed, let’s never wear them again.

  5. thearcticknight

Man. Felt like we really outplayed them there.

  6. jaredsurreddit

Enjoy another first round exit with play like that against a non playoff team, Maple Laughs

  7. Erne4Prez

God damn I am sharing the anger with the boys on the dumb fucking puck luck we had. Absolutely zero reward for all of our work and chances. 43 goddamn shots and two goals and about a million chances made. We fuckin tried.

  8. Redwings1023

43 shots on Matt Murray and they only get 2 past him. Bruuuutal. Overall they played a good game and I won’t be told otherwise.

  9. kar132435

Obviously wanted a win, but you can’t be mad at the effort. We continued to fight, and that’s more than you could say for last year’s Wheel Team.

  11. jfstompers

Disappointing result but the boys clawed and scratched all night long.

  12. xenonwarrior666

Ned was the better of the two goalies for a change.

Hopefully he can use that for the next start.

  13. blubbercup

Wings are 0-1-0 when wearing black in their jerseys

  14. fenderampeg

Great effort by the fellas. They played with passion against a very good team.

  15. Shotokanguy

Just bad habits coming home to roost, IMO. We have potential, I’ve been saying it all year. But some basic fundamental things like moving the puck up ice, creating offense, and defensive positioning need tuning.

I mean, we theoretically played an amazing 3rd period. But watching it…there weren’t a whole lot of high quality chances. Only towards the end there, when they remembered that they had a chance still, did they find another level. But too little, too late.

  16. TheNation55

Can’t win games where you’ve already lost to their **SIX** shots and then change absolutely nothing for the remainder.

  17. Jesus we havent beaten them in *eleven consecutive games*?! Oof. At least we got another goal late. 2-4 looks better to me than 1-4. Thought Ned looked good, and we the team in general turned around after we left Husso out to dry.

  18. AnthonyPantha

Leafs fans can thank Murray for playing his ass off and Husso for letting in 2 softies. Detroit dominated in nearly all areas of play.

  19. Orwells-Bastard-Son

Honestly that’s hockey. A lot to love about this team. They’ll bounce back Wednesday.

  20. Sckibble

I think it’s fair to say that we played well BUT for the mistakes we made they capitalized and husso couldn’t bail us out.

  21. Mendoza8914

I see everyone’s happy with the moral victory. I for one am pissed we lost to the Leafs AGAIN! It’s the only thing we’ve done consistently in the past five years.

  22. FineCauliflower9921

Let’s never use those jerseys again?

  23. RockosBos

Moneypuck flurry adjusted goals were 2.28-2.27 Wings.

Hockey is hockey, let’s get ready for Buffalo.

  24. TheVikingTh0r

The analytics and eye test agree, the reverse retros are the problem

  25. Boys put in a great effort, didn’t give up at any point, and had one of the best efforts I’ve seen from us on a 6-on-5. They were keeping puck possession confidently there, I’m so used to an empty net making me go « fuck, just handing them a freebie eh? » but that was a team that actually can play with an empty net behind them and not scare the hell out of me

  26. laser-lotus-

great effort against a top tier team on a hot streak. between a rare off night for husso, horrible puck luck and the fact the refs apparently decided tripping is now legal in 3rd periods, we looked fucking good for the full 60.

edit: also, the leafs blue line is currently playing their best hockey all year

  27. billypucks

We hung in this one until the end and that’s a good sign, also looked pretty good 5v5 as well

  28. GeneralWAITE

Wouldn’t mind knocking this team out of the first round of the playoffs.

  29. coltron57

This is a game that exemplifies what talent can do for you. We played well, but we don’t have the elite talent that Toronto does and that made the difference. We’ll get there (hopefully), but there’s still improvements to be made before we’re more than a playoff bubble team.

  30. CamouflageGoose

Could see them in the first round

  31. Huskies971

Not sure that 4th goal goes in if Husso doesn’t stab at it with his glove.

  32. shogun-of-the-dark

The sun is shining and so is Moritz.

  33. Zetterburger40

The whole game it looked like shit ice. Lots of fumbles and bad passes because the puck or skates were slogging.

  34. tfoxsail

Good game overall, I thought. Like Ozzy said – playing the Leafs this year you gotta « pretty much play a perfect game. »

  35. Huskies971

Sometimes they wait too long to change goaltenders, I thought it looked clear after the 3rd goal it may be a bad night for Husso

  36. Problemwoodchuck

I’m beginning to think that Bert may have rushed his return from IR

  37. frecciaazzurra

Great effort by the Wings. Have to say the Leafs had a horseshoe up their ass tonight

  38. EarthWonderful

Mirroring some other comments, I’m absolutely on the Husso hype train…but this should have been a Ned start tonight. I get why it probably wasn’t but it would have been worth the gamble. Husso deserved a break and Ned deserved a chance.

  39. dingusking69

Wings outplayed them, but Torontos back checking and hacking when the wings were in the Ozone is fucking annoying

  40. RedWingsFan1990

4-2 against Toronto shows improvement considering we’re 11-0-2 against them the last 13 and we’re usually getting blown out. PP was sloppy and our youth Chemistry still shows. Next game should be closer if not a win.
