Marner has been the Leafs most important player for a long time now. Their record is terrible when he is out. The bad October's also seem to coincide with Marner's slow start almost every year.
The question mark next to Murray's name has been health. It is way too early to take a victory lap on that trade.
The kids have been great on defense. Now the wingers have been helping out a lot. There is no guarantee that the guys who mail in defensive effort most of the time are going to keep working hard when the regular D core gets back. If they go back to their old ways one thing is sure. Keefe won't be holding anyone accountable.
