  1. Hawks fan here, so biased, but I’ve read and heard a lot about this and I stand by my opinion:

No way. Nope. No. No way. He’s the face of the franchise and in no universe will you get back a good enough return. Prospects are magic beans. Keep the incredible young player you have and build around him, no matter how long it takes.

“A young 40 goal scorer is great! But a draft pick can be anything! He could even be a 40 goal scorer!”

EDIT: Admittedly I commented this before watching the video because this topic stresses me out so much but I appreciate the guys’ thoughts on this. If the Hawks actually go through with this our fanbase will be gutted.

  2. Washington would be such an interesting place for DeBrincat. Washington has big salary available with Backstrom LTIRetiring. Caps need a new scoring winger superstar to bridge the Ovechkin era and build around. Caps have some young cheap prospects for depth but they're a big team that could use a small, dynamic forward who can score. Highly unlikely to happen but it would be fascinating to see him on the Ovechkin -Kuznetsov wing especially while Wilson is still recovering.

  3. I'm a hawks fan and my whole thought on this was Bowman knew exactly what the hell he did with the sexual assault scandal and figured his days were numbered.. he Waaaay overpaid for Seth Jones to completely destroy the hawks for years.

  4. the hawks can keep the cat (future captain), kane, and strome line together and still be bad enough to land bedard or a top 3 pick next year.

  5. Trading a 40 goal scorer for what? Maybe a 40 goal scorer in 4-5 years? Maybe a complete bust? S-m-r-t hockeying, Hawks!

  6. Steve, I agree with you Stan was a terrible GM who did not build the Blackhawks. Stan's contract negations skills I would rate them a were rated a D-. Other than Hagel he overpaid a majority of his guys 500,000 to 1 million over the range. ( Bickell, he more than tripled his salary). That always put the Blackhawks at a disadvantage when trading players or signing players. Stan's drafting skills I rate as a D. Scott Powers recently wrote an article about the new director of amateur scouting Mike Doneghey . In Scott's article, he wrote the Blackhawks % of NHL players between rounds 2 and 7 from 2010 to 2016 was %20. %17 below the NHL average. I bet if you look at the numbers in 4 years taking Stan's drafts from 2010 to 2021 that number will be even lower. Stan's trade negotiating skills I would rate as a D. Panarin for Saad, reacquiring Shaw, reacquiring Saad again, Henri Jokiharju for Alex Nylander, ( because Jokiarju wanted to go play in the WJC and in the summer go home and train in Finland) It was like you gave Stan the keys to a Lamborghini in 2010 and he kept scratching it and denting it until he crashed it ( With the Jones contract) Stan had NO experience as a scout, assistant GM, . He got the job because his dad was hired as an adviser and John Mcego wanted someone he could control. He ruined Blackhawks hockey for 10 years. Won't be relevant till 2027

  7. I am not the sharpest lightbulb in the crayon drawer but wouldn’t it make more sense to weaponize your cap space more effectively?

Like, eat half of Toews salary and send his ass to Winnipeg. Eat half of Kane’s salary and send him to Buffalo, they both expire in another year and those are the two you worry about potentially needing new deals.

Keep Debrincat for now and have him and Jones be the rock you build this new group with, and suddenly you have your Morgan Reilly and your John Tavares for the Blackhawks.

Now obviously I don’t know what teams would give up for Kane and Toews, but one has to think at least a first round pick is mentioned for both along with a lot more for Kane. If Kane costs a team 5.25 against the cap next year how many contenders take that swing?

And I think the reason the Hawks traded Hagel was pretty simple, you got two players who were bottom six forwards in Tampa, already developed the right way in Syracuse, you get yourself multiple first round picks which doesn’t help losing that pick to Columbus but it sure as hell doesn’t make it any worse.

  8. did their luck change around the time that cover up came out publicly? sad to see such a glorious franchise in its current condition.
and if they are stripping down does that mean Jones becomes available? does Dubas make an offer? what would the price be? Robertson, Sandin, Mrazek, and a 1st? (maybe Liljegren instead of Sandin)

  9. Bowman is to blame somewhat, but so are Toews, Kane, Keith, etc because they were approached a few years ago and they refused to commit to a full rebuild. Instead, Bowman was forced to re-tool and was fooled into thinking the Hawks were close (thanks to the play of Toews, Kane, Debrincat), but are not close at all and need to tear it down. So in essence, Kane, Toews, etc just delayed the inevitable and wasted a few years of their primes instead of commiting to a rebuild a few years ago. Also, who is going to take Jones at 9.5 million for 8 years? The guy has reached his peak and I don't consider him a top d-man (he has some major flaws on offense and defense). I don't think the Hawks want to retain salary either.

  10. I’m guessing it is either NJ or they simply extend him. Davidson wants to get high into the first round in 2022, and NJ has the 2nd overall and a saturated prospect pipeline with a couple blue chippers. NJ also has the cap space to extend him for $9m+ (his qualifying offer after next season must be $9m). Also, imagine a Jack Hughes to Alex DeBrincat connection for the next 8-9 years… Talk about a New Jersey resurgence…

  11. The Black Hawks are like the Sharks. Forget trying to compete. Get rid of the shitty contracts you can and rebuild. Just, start over. Might as well at this point. Plus they traded away Adam Boqvist

  12. As a hawks fan I’m hoping he get moved to the devils for the #2 plus more. Then Kane will want to leave and Toews as well. Move all three out before the season starts and do a full rebuild with some elite young talent over 2-3 years through the draft.

  13. The risks inherent in a tear-down style rebuild:
    1) you aren't trading current wins for future ones; you are trading current wins for potential future ones – if you get everything else right.
    2) what's the joke every year? "Connor McDavid will be looking for a trade now!" Building a team to lose guarantees losses. How long before the guy you tanked for is sick of it? Buffalo had no optimism until they traded Eichel.
    3) no one wins with nothing but 25-year old players. You need veterans to win, too, so why not keep a good one? So what if he's 28 when the team is finally competing again? SOMEONE has to be, and why not a guy who can teach the kids to do something other than lose?

  14. Also Bedard and Michkov are that good so I’m ok with moving literally anyone on our roaster if it helps get either of them.

  15. Unsure, about whether Mr Bowman was a good GM or not, but apparently 3 Stanley Cups for Toews and Kane mirrors the same number as Crosby. Crosby's got 2 more years on his current contract, Malkin has to get resigned this year. Both Toews and Kane's contracts expire at the end of this year and probably wouldn't get the 10.5 each again anyways. So if you measure Mr Bowman's performance with results, they did win 3 cups, how many has Dubas won?

  16. It's going to be interesting to see how much of a rebuild the Hawks are planning. I think the team has a decent starting point but does need work. Not a bad enough team for a full rebuild. Based on what happened in Buffalo and other total rebuilds, Hawks fans need to be prepared for lousy hockey for a long time if they go for a full rebuild. Not sure where they are going.

  17. They keep telling Steve that it's a different GM, he keeps acknowledging it but he keeps talking like he doesn't know it.

  18. So the Blackhawks want to tank to draft a superstar but they want to trade their superstar to ensure this?

  19. That's what Hawk's Management does, trades better players!! I used to get angry but I can't control the money hungry owners who charge ridiculous prices to watch a hockey game live. Thank goodness WGN radio broadcasts games🥺

  20. Hey look it’s out of town stupid… debrincat & Jones contracts replace Toews and Kane idiots…Bowman was the GM for 2 cups…yeah, that’s a horrible job… you guys would be blowing Bowman if he brought two cups to Toronto…

  21. Are you crazy? Try to be competitive again in 2023 when those contracts come off the books? Build around WHO?! debrincat and seth Jones and… sam lafferty?? Get a goalie? They had fleury and were still horrible they had Hagel and were still horrible. You must have not have watched a single blackhawks game this year and that rebuild on the fly mentality is exactly what's gotten the hawks into this. Tear it down, it's time

  22. If I’m a getting the 2 overall and more I’m doing it. Like some of their top prospects. He’s a franchise player

  23. They shouldnt tank purposely !! No great coach is going to come for that ! Its bad for morale ! and promotes a losing mindset that is hard to get rid of

  24. This is sooooo dumb .the damn vgk made it to the cup finals the yr of their expansion draft .with cheaper avg players and a star or 2 maybe. They need a GOALIE

  25. At the moment DeBrincat is 40 to 50 goal scorer not 30 to 40 goal scorer Adam. Check your stuff.
Last season he had a 50 goal pace for pretty much the entire season, scored 41 goals this season.
Also, dude is only 24. You just don't trade potential 24 year old 50 goal scorer, no matter what.
    Would you trade Matthews???

  26. Scott Powers: the Blackhawks could move DeBrincat.

Jarmo Kekalainen: presses 1 on speed dial "Hey Scotty, how's Seth? Listen, about DeBrincat …"

  27. Do you think the devils get him? If so does this improve them enough or are you guys still devil haters ? 😡

  28. My prediction is the Flyers. 5th overall pick this draft, Travis Konecny, and a blue chip prospect, Cam York?

I say Konecny because the Hawks cant just take magic beans back that might not become NHL players. They got to get at least one guy back in any trade scenario. Blue line, Goalie, Forward, that is an NHL player who is pretty good.

Konecny and what the flyers have to offer fits that bill.
