    Matthews isn’t going anywhere. At least not until his next extension expires. Even if he wants 15 mil, he’ll get hit. Believe me, the franchise has a cash cow in Matthews in terms of merchandising, advertising and super elite talent. Don’t fall for the non-story.

    Bro just let us enjoy our player. Like we tanked for him I think management would move heaven and hell to keep a once in a generational talent on the team . Oilers would never let mcdavid go for what they’ve gone through with him I think it’s similar with Matthews smh

    Ive said it to all my leaf friends that matthews will leave to go somewhere else after his contract is done with toronto he will go somewhere in the states and if arizona is willing to offer a decent contract he’ll go home

    I think a trade is inevitable. The leafs simply cannot afford to resign him and expect a full team and they absolutely cannot let him walk for nothing.

    T.J. Brodie and Jake Muzzin contracts both come off the books, at almost 11 million in 2024. Also, John Tavares contract expires in 2025. That's 11 million off the books. It's doable.

    I wouldn’t pay Mathew’s a dime over 10 million unless 1 of 2 things happen. 1. He he finds some intensity & grows into a leader. 2. The Salary cap gets a $10 million bump. Make no mistake, Matthews will leave TORONTO under the right circumstances. Maybe I expect too much from A.M., I’d want him to be more like Steven Stamkos. A sniper, a grinder, defensive forward & complete player & captain. He keeps reinventing himself. Consummate Professional on/off ice. He was during his youth in Tampa.

    Matthews and the Toronto bitchboys are proving Patrice Bergeron more and more correct every single day. If you want to win you have to sacrifice, and the "star" children who play for the Leafs care more about money than winning Stanley Cups.

    1. Mathews is american might want a US city.
    2. He's 2nd best player in world or at least top 4. Judging by what McKinnon got Mathews will be highest paid in NHL. And I think 14-16+millions out there.
    3. Some places have better weather,low or no taxes.more desirable compared to others
    4. It's been 7yrs in T.O. haven't got past 1st round. Will be 8 if they don't this year.
    5. Toronto is top heavy usually Stanley cup teams have more high end/key depth.
    6. Pressure/media is high and top 5 hockey markets more Canadian are hard on players and will turn on you quick.
    6A. There is a 2nd part to that though if you play hard do all the right things admits the pressure you will be a hero/cult in those markets,always have fans/respect. Like an Iginla for Calgary,Wendel Clarke,all the greats from sakic, forsberg,yzerman,Crosby Gretzky,Lemieux, Selanne.
    Sometimes if chase money or other things they view you like a Dany Heatley,Jagr,Doan people who played on multiple teams or left,bad teams.

    Think he will ask for 15 from the Leafs, and he will get it. They would need to shed John Tavares contract and that will cost them allot unless many teams have the cap to do it, even then.

    Not saying this is not a legit subject for the media … but I hate it because its BS. I guarantee you that there is only one thought in AM's mind – winning a cup. Everything else is just speculation and idle rumor mongering. There's a ton of reasons for him to stay and i'll bet there's a beefy file in Dubas' office laying out the strategy to keep AM. So can we lay off this subject until … the offseason! Does the name Matt Tkachuk mean anything to you? Treliving set a precedent for teams in that situation. This becomes an interesting, meaningful question when the leafs' season ends – not before.

    Think from a salary cap issue- keeping only one of Matthews or Marner makes the most sense. I don’t see a lot of other NHL wanting Marner – at his above $10M per year salary. I think Leafs should keep Matthews & dump Marner – but from Matthews point of view – with only individual achievements & high pay, Matthews has spent 50% of his career almost in a losing playoff situation. One Leaf fan – suggested Matthews does not want to move to a Stanley Cup contender and he just wants to be traded near his old home. I like the fun and entertaining hockey Matthews & Marner provide us Leaf fans. Even if they just quickly lose in playoff first round – Leaf fans are so loyal, I like that too. But I guess maybe for Leaf fans – the best thing to get another cup in Toronto is for Matthews and Marner – maybe is for them to leave soon, if Leafs GM wins a few trades. But who knows for sure. Team & these players recently are playing well lately. That is good news.

    I think Matthews will stay (hopefully) but if the Leafs can’t re-sign him they would have to trade him, they cannot let him go for nothing.

    If the Leafs do not have success this year he is gone. Canadian teams have it harder to retain players due to higher taxes and other Canadian issues we won't get into. Same issues many Canadians and North eastern Americans are fleeing to North Carolina. It is amazing how many players have a 7 (Canadian) team trade clause in their contracts. I think he will definitely be moving to a US team. If he goes out west his points numbers will be insane! (If McDavid played in the East his numbers would go down some) That's why Matthews to me is more impressive. He had those totals in the east! Now he is also playing for the Leafs, a team that defense has been an after thought the last few years. But Mattews is on his way out of Toronto for Sure.

    That's the dumbest thing i've heard in a long time. And Kypreos got you to fall for it. That's just Kypreos starting rummers based on nothing. Leafs will go way deeper than any other team when it comes to money. He will also make more money doing add's in Toronto then he could make playing hockey, and he knows that too. The next dumb thing to come out of Kypreos mouth will be Mcdavid will want to go to Toronto. So he can play with Matthews. OFLMAO Never going to happen.

    There are plenty of teams that will have the cap space to sign him. Although Toronto is a good fit, the goal is to win the cup. If Toronto keeps getting knocked out and there are other teams on the rise (New Jersey) MAYBE he leaves…

    matthews is going no where. Same shit that happened with stamkos. Just cuz a good player's contract is expiring, doesn't mean he'll leave
