No team is going to bring their A+ game every night. I’m not really surprised there’s been a bit of a dip in the teams play following the 13 game heater. We’re still in every game and still getting points, and it’s only a matter of time before we start rolling again
Pros:
1. We played one of our worst games of the season and still won due to goaltending, some clutch turnovers, and superior skill.
2. Zetterlund is proving he doesn’t have to be stapled to Nico to produce and can slot in anywhere in the lineup and make his line better.
3. Akira now has the body of work proving he is an NHL goaltender, which resolves some of the massive uncertainty around our weakest, least deep position.
Cons:
1. The whole team was making bad passing decisions all night. Loads of unnecessary turnovers and trying to hard to be flashy instead of making the simple smart plays.
2. We were sluggish in the defensive zone and paid for it with long stretches of possession by the Flyers. I hope this is just some sort of illness-related fatigue and not a broader conditioning problem.
3. Injuries mean we are icing a fourth line that is absolutely getting caved in by other teams. Shortening the bench during the last period was the right decision given we did not have the last change. Boqvist and Holtz should never be on a line together again – if they draw into the lineup they both need to be sheltered by stronger linemates.
4. Akira was selfish as hell trying for the empty net goal in the final seconds. He nearly turned the puck over. Love the confidence though.
