Man. The Stars CRUSHED that 2017 draft. Superstar forward in Jason Robertson, star defenseman in Miro Heiskinan and one of the best young goalies in the league in Jake Oettinger. What a gold mine of talent the Stars got in that draft. They are set up for a Cup run within the next few years.
Imo it’s unfair to compare robo to players drafted in the lottery. Drafting is crazy important but develop is just as, if not more, important. Dallas developed Robo incredibly well. A team like Philly or Buffalo would have probably laid an egg on his development if they did draft him

The easy, actual answer to this question is that there is a lot of talent in the NHL, and the draft is almost a complete crapshoot after the top 10ish picks, considering you’re drafting players who are all 17 or 18 years old who haven’t even came close to there full potential as a player at all.
Why would the Habs draft a goalie in the first round when you have Carey price in net? Like cmon dude let’s use some common sense💀

The Vesalainen case is pretty weird. Tons of potential wasted in the famous "graveyard for Finns" aka Winnipeg. He returned to Liiga like a month ago to Hifk and for what I have seen his play he's been pretty bad. Yeah he still hasn't played that much but I had higher hopes for the former 1st round pick.
Robertson, Heiskanen, and Oettinger in the same draft class! Definitely one of the best drafts a single team has had!

Isaac Ratcliffe never recovered from playing with Nick Suzuki you mean in Guelph. Some stats are inflated based on who they played with obviously.
Hischier also does all the little things no one talks about and his 2 way game is insane
It makes me sick to my stomach that ken holland picked gustav lindstrom the pick before Robertson. I remember even being bummed at the time
As a Canucks fan it's funny how many people were upset er drafted pettersson. So many people constantly said, glass, vilardi or Rasmussen should have been picked instead.
Glass was also the guy Vegas kept over Suzuki, which led to Suzuki being dealt in the Pacioretty trade. Unfortunately for them, that decision would come back to bite them in the Knight helmet, as Glass would end up becoming the worst of the two.
People make fun of the Stars for taking Miro Heiskanen over Cale Makar, but I'm certainly going to take Heiskanen and Jake Oettinger and Jason Robertson over Makar and Conor Timmins.
My cousin worked with NHL players and did training with them one summer, including Robertson in his draft year, and he did not think Robo would make the NHL. But he really proved him wrong which I’m happy about!
Other players he worked with include McDavid, Phil Kessel and Stamkos

I don't know why these videos are made. No one knew or expected Roberson to be a superstar. If they did, they would of drafted him higher. It's just lucky he became so good and unlucky the other players didn't. Why don't you make a video of players drafted before Datsyuk and Zetterberg. LOL.

Being from the Philippines, I'm glad seeing Filipnos (Robertson bros, Dumba, Stapleton) get some love in the NHL.
Am not sure if Nick and Jason can play for my country's national team. It will take a miracle to get them to play here. (Sched here conflicts with NHL season)
