Yeah, convincing voters is always going to be a challenge and is solely a matter of whose framing is accepted. These two are pitching it as “evil billionaire taking taxpayer money”, which certainly has some elements of truth. But they are not addressing the aspect that it’s currently a dump that Tempe taxpayers are already on the hook for. So it will be a question of how well can Tempe sell paying for those cleanup costs, since that’s really all that’s on the line

This shouldn’t be surprising to Arizona residents. The Democratic party here is more fiscally conservative relatively. And the republican party (with clear exceptions) is historically fiscally conservative. It was always going to be an uphill battle against the politicians.
