1. Nothing weird. With 3 seconds, adding an extra forward player, it's the right move to do. It should be interesting mathematically to calculate in the best condition, how long it takes to win the face off and shot in the empty net on the other side.

  2. That's a normal, logical move. A coach I had when I played Pee-Wee hockey who had a long career as a player and AHL GM did that in at least one of our games. The only reason it seems weird is because the situation doesn't arise a lot, and even when it does, coaches aren't always alert enough to exploit the opportunity, or they just don't bother.

  3. Alain vignualt did this all the time with the Canucks. Usually with a few seconds left of each period. Seems like a long time ago now

  4. I’m a sens fan and I see why they did it teams should do this more often if there is like 4 seconds or under left in the period it’s pretty smart.

  5. Kinda crazy you don't see more of this. Such a small risk at under 5 seconds to go.

  6. Yeah because that's what you do to play smart hockey… Had as many guys crash the net as possible hoping for a rebound… With that little amount of time left there is a very slim chance that the other team will score unless it's a slap shot to force the puck to the other end…

  7. I was a goalie and had a coach who would always do this at the end of a period. Offensive zone face off with a few seconds left so not much time for other team to score. Put the extra guy in front of the net, try to win the face off to the point and get a shot off, hope for a tip or a good screen. It worked pretty well for us- we got at least a couple goals from it that I can remember.

  8. Timrå (SHL) has pulled the goalie in OT 2 Times this year, Won both games With OT goals (been lots of time left both times)

  9. Smart. Though doing it with 3 seconds at the NHL level is about the maximum. Would like to see it more in youth hockey. Many times seen my sons teams over the years not take advantage of a face off deep in the O zone with 2,3 or 4 seconds left in a period… and they don’t practice it either… 🙁

  10. You know I like that move a lot it’s something different. If you win that face-off there is a chance that your scoring
