They are looking good. But they could end up on a losing streak sometime soon also. They are not built well to withstand – the way playoffs often are officiated.
They've already lost to the Coyotes, Sharks, Kings, and Ducks that's 8 lost points! They did the same thing last year losing to teams they should CLOBBER! They would have won the presidents trophy last year if they won the games against the bottom feeders and avoided Tampa, now add the 8 points they lost so far this year to the bottom feeders, now where would they be with another 8 points this year? YES at the top of the League! This team just keeps doing the same things wrong year after year. So guess whats going to happen in the first round of the playoff this coming year? I think we all know!!!!
I disagree with that last point about Spezza. I don't think he plays until 38 or 39 without being a good skater. Someone like Tavares doesn't have that kind of run in him. It's why signing Morgan Rielly was a good signing – a good skater can last in the NHL until they are 36 or older, a bad skater will not.
I don't think anyone thought the leafs were a bad team and it was predicted they would go on a run but real cup contenders do not consistently lose to bad teams and further are never ready in the 1st 10 games of the season. Dubas has his untouchables and then he has a list of guys that he deems replacable. Guys to fill in the spots for less money. I would strongly disagree that some of those players he let go or traded were replacable. Hyman was part of the leafs core man. Kadri too but they needed to have got a centerman back in that deal that played either on the 1st or second line. Its difficult to replace that position. That was a rookie GM mistake. Horrible deal and I hated it from day 1. The Colorado media did not have good things to say about Barrie but Toronto thought he was a stud. That said if the Leafs are going to go far in the playoffs they need 2 more elete dman and another Centerman and even 1 or 2 more forwards. They need to get bigger and in playoffs you can't rely on your top dogs to always score. Tavares and Nylander are the only guys that are clutch in big games . They need more of that. I'm happy for Marner I thought he hadn't reached his full potential yet and he seems to be improving. I'm interested in seeing his game in this seasons playoffs. Not that he was bad before.
