One player I think has been solid most nights is Trocheck — He plays a physical game -is outstanding on face-offs and great on the penalty kill . He has hit I would guess 10 -12 posts and is playing exactly like he did on Carolina – I have no complaints about his game .. Mika has 13 goals in roughly 1/3 of the season – he isn't scoring even strength goals but is on pace for 40 goals .. Kreider has 11 goals and has hit a boat load of posts too but that said is on pace for the second best season of his career . The power play needs to improve – secondary scoring must come from someone !!!

This is a skilled team…not going to overpower people 5 on 5. They NEED to score on the PP or this disaster will continue. The PP is their competitive advantage based on the team makeup. Trocheck is the problem on the PP.

Tactically, the team is inept – players are frequently out of position. Roster wise, there isn't enough Top-6 skill. Laf and Kakko, sadly, are third line guys.

One thing I noticed this season is Rangers aren't as much fun to watch, and it's not just bc they're losing so much. They look tired and slow. Their passing game was superb last season, now they're passing to nobody and getting picked off. It seems they aren't playing as a team.
IMO, Lindgren, Trochek, Trouba, Gauthier and Zibanejad always seem to put in max effort, but the rest of the team has their passenger days. Ya can't do much with 6 guys. Fox is over-used, too.

They are currently # 2 in team hits with 759. The division leading Devils have 432. I don't think thats the problem ..
Power play inefficiency ?? The Rangers are currently 20.5% on the PP — the Devils are 20 %. YES its a problem – but why are the Devils able to win with an equally inept PP ?
Penalty kill ??? The Rangers are 80%. while the Devils are at 81.5 %. the Devils are better but not a huge difference .
Currently the Rangers are averaging 33.7 shots on goal per game which is 7th highest in the league – so they are shooting the puck .
Rangers are currently 6th best in giving up the least amount of shots on net in the league at 29.15.
The Devils have scored 77 even strength goals to the Rangers 56 – WOW !! It was a big issue last year but was masked by the brilliance of Igor and the Rangers solid PP but no matter how poorly the PP has been this year -it has nothing to do with their problem of scoring even strength this year .
If they are getting shots on net among the leagues best why aren't they going in ? How many posts have they hit in 26 games ? Every team has their share but the Rangers must be crushing it in that team stat .
There's no tenacity, no heart, no urgency and no chemistry. Doesn't matter who you are playing night in and night out you have to leave everything on the ice. And for the love of God, shoot the puck and stop waiting for a highlight reel goal or pass. I know we've been hitting the post, crossbar more than often, but missing wide open nets 5-10ft out in front of the goal is ridiculous

Steve Valiquette's post game comments are still available -He alluded to an unhealthy negativity that can find its way into a locker room – factions of a locker room that talk and they're negative . Sometimes those players hang out long enough and management recognizes it and they move those players out – those are his words ..While I won't read into it as THIS is exactly what's happening in the Rangers locker room right now he certainly has more insider knowledge than we do .. Very disturbing comments from Jacob and Valiquette ..

They do not play well along the goal line because they do not have the personnel to do so they are a terrible for checking team and their system relies too much on one for checker in the zone if you watch the other night at the end of the senators game not one ranger was in the zone they allowed Alex d of the senators to walk right through the neutral zone and right over the blue line although their penalty kill was fifth in the league this season I don't like the way they penalty kill they allow teams to walk right over the blue line and set up while they play a soft box way too below the circles like I said the other problem that is so obvious is how much time they spend in their own zone and how poorly their Puck management is the constant turnovers have destroyed them this season it was a problem last year as well that's a function of a system it's not structural
Yes the rangers ended their season sadly last season but went a long way. They had some good chemistry with what they had.
They got cheap and let some of those guys go. Then they gave all that money to trocheck. Wtf !!
