    Key takeaways:

    – Matthews is still an elite player, he currently ranks 4th in GSVA in the league, behind McDavid, Matthew Tkachuk, and Robertson (not the one named Nick)

    – The top 4 has been elite and are providing surplus value based on their play

    – JT has actually driven more excellent defensive play on 5 on 5 then offence, which surprised me a lot.

    – Kerfoot has been mediocre offensively, but is still providing key defensive 5 on 5 play. I think he would benefit moving to the third line and the Leafs brining in a 2LW to play with JT and Marner more consistently.

    – The Leafs revamping of their bottom 6 seems to have paid off from a defensive standpoint, the majority of them being great to elite defensive players

    – Nick Robertson was having an okay season before the injury

    – Every single defenceman has been good defensively

    – Can we please stop making Holl the whipping boy? There are a lot worse defenceman tied to worst contracts around the league, so please stop putting all the blame on him

    – Lily and Sandin have both been elite this year, especially with the increased usage. I could see them being our top pairing next year.

    – Our goaltending has been incredible, both Murray and Samsonov have contributed almost equally.

    – There are very few players who aren’t carrying their weight in some sort of fashion. You can see why this team has been elite since the start of November.

So help me out here. How is matthews valued above the league max contract? Secondly, it seems like every leaf is getting less than what they’re valued at. Is every leaf underpaid? Or does this model not take some things into account, like difficulty of competition?

Whatever formula they use to determine market value is extremely flawed. The values they assigned to some of these guys is just mind boggling

  4. McGrevin

Robertson is the only guy below the 50th percentile on defensive impact.

For extra fun, go look at the oilers team. Doesn’t take long to see why they struggle despite scoring so much

  5. MSPaintIsntHard

Mark Giordano is an absolute beauty

I really don’t get how ZAR has a market value of zero
