Avoiding that 1 critical turnover is a tough way to play for 60 minutes. Has them so tentative to even want to try making an offensive effort. Remember your Little League baseball days – there was always that 1 scared little kid they stuck in right field & hoped nobody would hit the ball in his direction. There's no confidence & swagger that they can win on this team. You can see it in their rolled back eyes & hanging heads.
Last year they had a highly skilled NHL forward in Claude Giroux, and they were still in a big skill and speed deficit. Lots of big bodies on the roster, no great prospects in the pool and yet the GM still has his job. Does anyone think Fletcher can make a move or two (like trading Sannheim) and draft well over the next year or two to turn this team in the right direction?
