Honestly, people need to give players time to develop.
It can take years to fully become an NHL player, especially a defenseman.
Our fanbase for whatever reason has zero patience or grace allowing players to go through this natural learning curve. You can’t see it, but players are learning as they go, and learning on the biggest stage in the world is a very demanding thing to do.
Meanwhile our fans are deciding that these guys “don’t have it” and working themselves up in constant negative feedback game after game.
So instead of giving a young player 2-3 years to master the game at the NHL level, they’re already convinced of their inevitable failure after just a couple of months.
I’m so glad that we have Dubas and Keefe and we’re no longer the team that runs young talent out of town (as we did for decades). The fanbase needs to catch up and learn to be as patient as our franchise has become.

Sandin had a rough first several games… people were rightly saying he looked off…. Don’t see anything wrong with calling players out for not playing well… certainly don’t see any need to apologize for it.

Personally always has a belief that Sandin could be a great D man just that I think Lilly was the safer pick given the style Lilly has adapted to play.
I also personally think Lilly has a bit more offense to give if he were to try.

What is with all these « please apologize to x player » threads. The players aren’t as emotionally fickle as the fans and probably don’t read r/leafs. I don’t think Sandin or Holl need a bunch of redditors to stick up for them. They know the deal that fans will change opinions like the wind. They’re big boys, they can take it.

I really just wanted them to stop playing Holl so many minutes and give him a chance. Glad injuries forced us to show how good these guys are. Now use them properly!!!
