  1. great summary. seems and Oilers tradition to NOT manage ice time properly… & for players to get really lazy on checking… The good thing is that it does make it clear how often many just give the impression of checking (when they are not) – shows need for coaches.. many like to just wait for the pass out. For Shore/Yama/RNH to all miss open nets.. looked like great saves.. but actually bad shooting. They are doing pretty well.

  2. David, Sorry for your loss. keep your head up and remember the good days! As for the game it was a hard way to give up the loss! Nurse…………. and the rest need to learn defense! I think it's time for Jay to not be the mr. nice guy anymore!

  3. When David started talking about his dad, I thought that David would connect it with JP's dad being in the arena for this match… But as we know, Coach Woody chose to dig even deeper than to do something nice and try to make something positive out of this occasion.

Regardless JP. and Woody/Oilers… Sorry for your loss David

  4. Love that Bruce has the same anxiety as I do when we go up 3-1 then you can just see that the first minute after scoring they will give up the next one usually within a minute and sure enough.
    Devin Shore??? Darnell Nurse WTH???

  5. Nurse should be Benched or Traded…. He is not worth 3 million ( alone 9.5 Mil grossly over payed )

  6. Apparently, Edmonton is not Colorado, McDavid is not Makar and Edmonton is in Canada, not the US.
I feel abit ashamed to be so petty and not condole you for your loss, David.
Just tough, cause i hate my father.
If you really liked your dad (for the most part), my sencere condolences.

  7. I am terribly sorry for your loss, David. I hope your dad is at peace and you and your family are OK

  8. Nurse should do the right thing and give the money back to the Oiler organization and humbly renegotiate his contract for the betterment of the team. He damn well knows he's not worth $9M. He costs goalies their career and is a major contributor in preventing McDavid and Draisaitl from not coming near the cup. For every smart play Nurse makes, he makes 5 atrociously dumb plays. The absolute shocker about Nurse is that 100% of his dumb plays that cost goals and games are all in his end. When was the last time Nurse gave up the blue line? You'd have to dig deep for that stat. Nurse makes better plays behind the opposing teams net and never gives up the blue line. However, Nurses tarnished record is all related to mind boggling blunders in his end. And Nurse doesn't waste time making blunders from every inch of the ice in his end – front of his net, corners, behind his net between the red dots. You name it, if Nurse is defending in his end there will be a major unforced error that happens guaranteed. It pains me to think he goes to sleep every night laughing at the Oiler organization for being so stupid to give him his contract. A contract that will go down in hockey history as the infamous contract that compromised the Oilers chances for winning a Stanley Cup. He may be one of the fastest skating defensemen in the league, but easily one of the worse. Moving Jesse has been the big distraction as of late, however, Holland seriously needs to consider moving Nurse and not hesitate in doing so. Dollar out dollar in swap with another team that has to many Tarzan defenseman on their roster and not enough Janes. Oilers have too many Janes. Darnell should be, 100%, the first major bargaining chip to hit the open market asap. It's just not normal for hockey analysts to question so frequently, both live on the air, and in post game shows on mainstream TV and podcasts, the inexplicable decisions he makes on the ice night in and night out. Not for a $9M player. Oiler fans and the media have given Nurse a pass for not scoring enough, being a $9M defenseman. But Nurse gets no pass on preventable mistakes he makes on a nightly basis that costs his team games and damages a goalies save percentage game after game and the value of a goalie in the process. In my harsh opinion, the Oilers will never play a Stanley Cup final series with Nurse defending. Who gives a flying f*** how many minutes Nurse racks up in ice time on a nightly basis. The equation should be about what you do with those minutes. When it comes to Darnell Nurse, quantity over quality is not helping the organization in any way, shape or form. The coaching staff of the Oilers need to accept the stark reality that it's a far safer bet to give Nurse far less minutes on the ice. Quality over quantity. Nurses body can handle the minutes, but his mind cannot. It's the only explanation that accounts for his on ice decision making. Nurse needs to be moved ASAP to a team that needs a puck moving Jane. Holland needs to wrap up his trade talks about Jesse and then start working the phones about Darnell. It's time to move Nurse. It's a sound financial decision and most certainly the right business decision for the organization.

  9. If you don't get any minutes you can't get offense rolling, pretty sad to run your tip players so hard

  10. I would rather lose as team when the team is playing. You can not play 5 guys 30 minutes every night and expect a different outcome. This is why there is a lot of win one lose one and one goal loses. This team misses the 3 players that are out but they need to start rolling the lines somewhat

  11. Good news is we got a point…but a point we gave away not a point we stole….Oilers generally tend to be pillaged not the pillagers .. same problems as usual… urgency, execution and softness. LOve your passion as usual fella's ~ every day. God Speed David.

  12. Sorry to hear about your dad David. It sounds like he had a long and tough battle. It’s clear to me he lived his life indelibly, the mark he has left on your heart is clear to see. I hope some of those memories bring you wisdom and comfort.

  13. McDavid and Draisaitl, maybe even Nuge, were a bit tired for the shootout. I think they should of went with some of the others first

  14. David, condolences about your Dad’s. passing. Thanks to your Dad for passing you the torch of hockey passion. Many people, including myself, enjoy your inherited love of the game through your podcasts. Cult of hockey, indeed !

  15. The Oilers are in a bit of a fix, with some of their players, they're stuck with them. As good as Nurse is, last year how many pucks deflected off of him into their own net. They need Kane back to wake him up sometimes, shoot or pass the puck instead of dilly dallying all the time

  16. Nurse plays like he actually thinks he's Chris Pronger…he lopes around with NO urgency!
HOW…do u bench Bouchard….and allow Nurse to do this EVERY game….disgusting and now we are burdened with this mench for 8 more years at how much….what a joke…sorry for the rant.
    David, condolences

  17. As irrate as I was last night, after sleeping on it I'm glad we lost only 1 point and hope this drives home to Nurse to make basic defensive plays when in full possession of the puck.

  18. I'm so sorry for your loss, David. Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary that I lost my mom to cancer. I lost my brother to cancer the year before that, so hearing that your dad was having a rough go the last little while really hits home. My heart goes out to you.

Regarding Nurse; I noticed during the Covid season that when the puck comes to him with a short amount of time left on the clock he tends to panic and give it away rather than eat the puck. It happens a lot. I mentioned it in one of your videos last year. Go back to the infamous Makar goal in game one of the Avs series and you'll see another prime example of this. Furthermore, it's happened a number of times in the last few games where the puck goes into his corner and he gives an incredibly weak backhand pass behind the net that ends up getting picked up by the other team and ends up in the Oilers net. And, it's been mentioned a few times before, but he goes down to block a pass or a shot way too much. He's extremely ineffective at it. These are features to his game and all 3 faults showed up tonight in those 2 goals. I'm not saying trade him or put him in the press box, but something needs to be done; it costs the team too much.

  19. Tough podcast for you David, deepest condolences. When you are late in a game at 3-1 and then 2-1 you should not be focusing so heavily on offence which the Oilers were. Especially when you are in the last minute with a manpower advantage…close out the game!
