Of the destinations listed for Giroux, I feel FLA is the strongest cup contender. But with the guys that seem to be leaving the Canes, I'm not too sure about them. And Ottawa are emerging but not nearly there yet. Probably not even a playoff team. So if the Oilers are willing to offer more term than the Panthers are, I think they might have a quite good chance to land him.

Hopefully we can land Campbell and hopefully he can stay healthy. I think Stuey will do a much better job than Mrazek if Campbell does get injured. I'm happy with a 5×5 deal for him. The Oilers should be wise when it comes to PJ. He's a former 4th pick. If we're trading him, get something good in return. Still hope Keith retires
The one thing many need to remember is LTIR isn't something you can just "do". There HAS to be a valid reason and if Smith is going to be out for the season that means that it has to be enough of an issue to basically be a career ender that means he WON'T be back. We haven't heard anything specific about Smith's injuries so what does he have that's so major. Bryan Marchment another player gone way too soon. We'll see what happens. Great vid as always.
I just can't get excited about having Jack Campbell on the team. He'd be an improvement over Mike Smith but reports are he's looking for $5M x5 years and there's no way he's worth anything close to that. I mean every goalie who moves this year is going to be overpaid to some degree but that's not an excuse to detach completely from common sense. And as I've said so many times – if Toronto… who is evidently a contender… doesn't see him as the guy who can get them there, why do we?
Why did Ken Holland go out and trade for a nearly finished defenseman, bring him here at full salary and staunchly defend having done so and then a year later, turn around and try to coax him into retirement. And if Keith doesn't give him an answer by Saturday, what's Kenny going to do… suspend him or something? If I was Keith or Smitty, I'd tell Holland that I have a year left on my contract and you'll know when and if I've decided to retire when I'm damned well ready to tell you and not a minute before!
Sorry but I can't get excited about Giroux either. The only words which come to mind when I think of him are "overage, overpaid and over-the-hill."
And for the umpteen millionth time, why…. WHY!… are we continually depending upon other teams rejects, cast-offs and has-beens?! Why can't we draft and develop talent of our own like… say… Jesse Puljujarvi who at 24, we can't seem to push out the door fast enough?
I'd like to say that I'm optimistic about this off-season but so far, there's little reason to be, in my opinion.
I think tomorrow (NHL draft), things are going to change quickly. Also, I believe oilers are comfortable giving jack campbell 5×5, I might be wrong.

I think the Oilers should really try to get the blues goalie and get Smith to teach him and please 🙏🏽trade Jesse because the Oilers don't need more drama and get a player from the Red Wings and with Kane the Oilers just give him a two year contract and if he says No then just walk away 💯👍🏾🇨🇦

Enjoying your podcasts; your updates are interesting. Keep up the good work Patrick. Jack Campbell, Claude Giroux are two of the most intriguing hopefulls for the Oilers at a price that makes sense. Can’t wait for the latest news updates. Hopefully Kenny makes the best choices to put us in the drivers seat for a Cup run. Evander Kane??? If we can’t sign him, too bad! Soucy is another player I’d like to see in Edmonton. Xavier Bourgault, Lavoi, Dylan Holloway and perhaps Niemalainen too. Can’t wait to see how their training camp goes. Seems like Kenny Holland sees Broberg on D for the Oilers this year and I hope Holloway too joins our club. Exciting times for Oilers Nation!
Stay away from Kane and another long term deal and cap disaster. Oilers should have put Kane on the 4th line so he didn't get all those points and then his price wouldn't be so high. Bring in the young guns and forget about all these free agents except for a goalie. But even with these free agent goalies there is no guarantees. Should have played Koski more and should have kept him. Koski was pretty decent when he played regularly and at least they knew what they had with him. And really Smith was no better than Koski but Oilers always went with Smith and now look where they are.
I really am not sold on Jack Campbell, unless he is working hard this off season to be healthier. I hope they have other prospects in the Goalie market. Kane is still the guy I want but the contract would have to make sense. I mean with all the delay it is hard to say what might happen after free agency. I like Giroux a lot but man, again the contract would have to make sense. Jesse is becoming drama again and because of his play both on the defensive side of the puck and 5 on 5, he should warrant a good trade value, regardless how some of the fan base feel. I would love to see a fantastic, I cannot believe that happened event happen this off season for the positive for this club as well. No regression this year, just positive ruthless aggression to get back to the final 4 next year.

Could it be possible to sign both Kane and Giroux? Campbell or Husso are both possible? and a good trade with Kassian and or Puljujarvi? If Holland could manage to get 2 good proven forwards a upgrade in Goal and Kulak and fill the rest with our Bakersfield up and comers that would be sooooo sweet!!! Im crossing every appendage, digit, etc I can for something like that. Holland would have the Oiler Fanbase very much behind him if they improve on Forwards, defense and goalie!!!! Although I do think getting Kane would have to involve a 7 year deal to make that possible. I bet he will get lots of offers and the deciding factor might be down to a 7 yr deal and the Oilers giving him warm and fuzzies, since we mostly welcomed him with open arms and every 2nd media question didn't involve his personal life.

Very Sad to hear about Brian Marchment. I loved how players like Pavel Bure would not go down his side of the ice on attack! Condolences, 53 is far far to young. Patrick, If you see this, I notice you don't seem to mention Niemelainen as a player who could/should have been up more last year and for sure in the playoffs, as well as into the coming year. Same for Russell. Both of them I'd have used ahead of Keith. Curious as to your thoughts on that, and I'd love to hear from other fans on those 2 as well. Thanks for the fine content)
