Great signing!
No they did not because the key player in al lof it was Tkachuk and CGY does not have Tkachuk.
Tkachuk is the type of player you can win cups with he is a solid playoff type player but you need the right players around him.Johnny hockey is a skilled player that can put up some numbers but imo you will never win the cup with a smallish player like that. The ideal situation is if CGY kept both players but instead they have neither.
So CGY added a D man Weegar whom idc about he is not a top paring D man and not leading any top line to the cup.Huberdeau is more of a great passer but he relies on guys scoring goals and CGY imo will score less goals.
Kadri is another key because he will NEVER repeat last season so they acquired an over rated player and over paid an over rated player.
So the 3 players they lost Johnny will go down in value Tkachuk will rise in value and Monahan is a who cares of players.Their additions Huberdeau will go down in value Weegar "who cares"Kadri will go down in value so imo CGY is a worse team but also lost a first round draft pick to MTL.
Lindholm will score less and Mangiapane will score less which is why Huberdeau will NOT come close to his 115 pts of which is usually/mostly assists. They have put together a really strong team….umm NOPE.Calgary wil do what CGY does finish in the playoffs maybe win a round then be ousted and leave fans and management scratching their heads wondering HOW do we improve this team to be a legit cup contender.
always love looking at comments to see some way oilers fans still say we aren't a good team, saying Huberdeau / Kadri signing was terrible for us and cap space. Maybe in 5-6 years but they aren't bad contracts for high-caliber players.

I'm not sure, but I feel that 2nd line could be dangerous based on the strengths of the players on it. If that's the 2nd line going into the season, I'll be watching them closely. 🤔
Chemistry will be a big question! But on paper the Flames should challenge again this year, Are they actually better? Maybe! I think they have a shot at the Stanley Cup.
Flames fan here, the truth of the matter is that JG is a very good player, but at the end of the day, regardless of his +/- astronomical high the little dude had 2 drawbacks, and unfortunately in the NHL they can seal the fate of any team.
First, his size is a huge handicap, when the game turns tight and less wishlist around he is afraid of contact and he could not give an accurate pass, as we’ll be ones a liability on D. Second he is a player that thrives on creating opportunities for others, but once the game turns tight and D doesn’t give u much space and cover the passing lanes, JG becomes useless. Hence the play off performances . About 3 seasons ago when the flames were leading the league with only Tampa ahead of them, I remember the anticipated match . I was there, I remember Tampa played covering the passing lanes and Calgary lost badly, the same recipe was used by Colorado in the playoffs and Calgary lost the series 4-1. Where I like JG, the reliance on him was the weakest link during PO. So it is not so bad that he left.
