  1. Middleton has bad passing stats, someone who’s primarily defensive he has to be able to get the puck out of the zone and pass without causing problems. If the stats are not accurately reflecting this … maybe but he will be what third line? Not worth two picks

  2. Good Vid,
So…. if Jake Muzzin was injured going into the Boston series and during the Columbus and Montreal series why do the Leafs feel obligated to let him back into the lineup until the team see’s fit?
Muzzin plays a physical game (we all know this), and concussions aside, if he needs to receive additional Physiotherapy for a certain amount of weeks to get his (partially war torn) body in to optimal condition then so be it, the Leafs shouldn’t have to explain it to him that he’s injury prone, and he will return to the ice only to get in enough fitness games before the playoffs start.
This secures and establishes more cap room by making the call for Muzzin on when he will return to the lineup. He’s not 25 years old. He’s banged up and all that matter are playoffs, if anyone should know this it is former L.A King Jake Muzzin himself.
I don’t see a problem here, leave Muzzin on LTIR until the team sees fit. Ensure he is getting proper medical attention and strength and conditioning training and create them cap room necessary to add good players by expending some draft picks while we have players like Austin Matthews in a Leafs uniform. If the team is projected to finish with 105-110 pts then now isn’t the time to stockpile draft picks, stockpiling picks can happen if a certain someone who leads the league in goals leaves the team. Then the Leafs can stockpile all the picks they want.
I prefer Lindholm who has played 1st line minutes for a long time but since this video is about the San Jose Sharks then – Middleton and Reimer (Sharks retain some of Reimer Cap hit) for a 1st round pick, Peter Mrazek and Joseph Duszak

  3. If trading for Middleton. Try and see abiut bringing back Reiner. Be a good backup to JC. Give ‘em

    Mrazek
    2nd
    Prospect

    For

    Middleton
    Reiner

    ?

  4. Sandin, Engvall, Mikheyev and a later draft pick for Lindholm and Milano.

Dermott, Robertson for Middleton and Dahlen.

Nylander, Kerfoot, Liljegren, Knies for Mantha, Rasmussen, 1st in 2022, conditional 1st in 2023

    Bunting, Matthews, Marner
    Milano, Tavares, Kase
    Dahlen, Kampf, Mantha
    Douglas, Rasmussen, McMann

    Rielly, TJ Brodie
    Lindholm, Lybushkin
    Middleton/Dahlstrom/Kral, Duszak

  5. not worth the ask i think focus on a top 4 man thats great defensively

  6. I’d go for Middleton. See how he plays. If he out plays muzzin, then sorry, trade muzz in the off season. He costs too much, in his 30’s and he’s had injury trouble. But going into the playoffs, Brodie/Rielly, Middleton/lybushkin, muzzin/holl, sandin/liljegren that’s a pretty solid blue line. Dermott as well but I still think he’s going to get traded. Leafs need someone that does what Middleton does.

  7. Toronto maple leafs need to trade for Carson Soucy. He plays both sides of the ice physical blocks shots and can score. You can send them Kerfoot and duzack plus a second rounder. Then you trade meraz Dermot for Reimer and Middleton

  8. I don't think Reimer ever received the credit that he deserves. The team absolutely refused to give him the reigns over Bernier when he was clearly the better goaltender. Hell, he was steady before this team came together. He's a steady guy and would work as a great tandem with Cambell. I think the only thing is to convince him to play in the Toronto market again. Let's pump this idea!!!

  9. Ivan Provorov (Philly) would be a great pick up. He gets his shot off more than any other defense men. He can move the puck. Watched him in Brandon & this guy can go.

  10. I'm all for not selling the farm this year, but likely Dubas will at some point.

  11. all these leafs trade rumours from all the hockey creators suggest leafs are interested in everybody in the league 😂

  12. Just wondering…which would you like better Morgan Rielly at 7.5 mil or Jacob Chychrun at 4.5 mil? Do you think someone from the core 4 has to go in the off-season?
    Thanks
    Dave

  13. Oh I'm watching this and wondering how we ever got through without all these statistics. Oh how did we ever do it.

  14. No Reimer, just no, nope. I'd rather roll with Woll or Kallgren if it comes down to it

  15. When your playing with low expectations there is no pressure. Coming to the leafs for a playoff run changes everything.

  16. I really think its going to end up being Craig Anderson in net i really do. I think he would be a perfect fit. I really dont see lindholm to toronto. I do however see Giordano. then I ezpect another depth forward move.

  17. I'm a Sharks fan and I can say for sure he is a diamond in the rough. He's high hockey iq, physical, defensive.

  18. The brass donot know how to built champions, just runner up. Built by defence out and then plug a good goalie. We are top heavy period.

  19. Imagine the Leafs brought back Luke Schenn and James Reimer and they won? What a story!

  20. What’s stopping a trade for Middleton, Reimer for Mzarek Dermott and a 3rd??

  21. Maybe James Reimer is the guy to come back and break the curse he put on us in game 7 against Boston

  22. Good stuff, Steven! You know one thing that needs to be stated is that Dubas at this stage has been beating the bushes understanding what might be possible. It's all in the interest of developing optionality at the deadline. He'll have a clear statement of need and a priority listing of how those needs could be addressed individually or in combination. And he'll have an execution plan on the front burners and a "keep 'em warm" strategy on the back burners. So when I sit here going "I hope we have more at the end of the day than Jacob Middleton" it needs to be with the realization that Dubas hopes so too. But there are a bunch of other teams out there and the situation is fluid. Dubas is just doing his job understanding what he needs to do to get Middleton if the situation demands that in the interest of improving the roster.

I would be disappointed if we just end up with a player like Middleton on the blue line. Nothing against him, he's just a supporting piece when I see the need as having another elite d-man. Like the Blackhawk's D (Keith, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson) when they were winning cups or the Bolts (Hedman, McDonough, Sergachev). Lindholm is a great fit for that but acquiring him means Muzzin is gone until the playoffs or they're prepared to trade someone like Nylander to create the cap space. He will be fatally expensive if he's not signed to an agreement with term and trading Nylander, while scary and bold, might be just the balance this roster needs to take the next step. Lindholm makes no sense as a rental!

I always liked Reims, but I'm not in favour of bringing him back – just another spare part. It's not that I would hate it but to get a Lindholm or a Chychrun would likely take everything the leafs have to give. I hope we have that problem rather than tinkering with another piece at the edges.

Final point … love Muzz, but I'm worried about him. He's breaking down, likely the result of the hard edged game he plays. I would exercise a lot of caution around head injuries as they often have a long tail and this is his second in succession. It's not about coming back … its about coming back with what. I wouldn't count on him too much and that adds to the immediacy of getting another elite D-Man.

  23. What is this everyone is not a sports authority with nothing concrete. Just repeat steal from other social media outlets lol

  24. While the Leafs talk cheap shit. Other teams are actually doing and getting better . This Leaf team is incredibly soft, and has no heart at all. No trade or trades will change that fact. This is the team Dumbass put together. This will be his last season as gm of the Leafs. To think we could have had a Hunter running this team, what a joke the Leafs continue to be.

  25. It’s funny I have been saying Dubas for awhile and I know my hockey with experience just never made it at 6”6
