.255 career hitter. 25mil/yr? Okay. Another Heyward type signing, paying for defense with no offense. Cubs need to generate runs and they need starting pitching that can go deep into games. Swanson is a decent player but he is a $15 mill to $20mill/yr. type player. But it's not my money, I get it.

Don't get the excitement. 25 million. a year for 255 avg. And strikes out almost 200 times a year. Only walked 49 times last year. Going to be a 35 year old short stop when contract ends. Won't be close to golden glove at that age. Baseball pays for just average more than.any sport. By the time Cubs are a winning game team this guy will be Heyward

In some ways this was the best outcome for the Cubs: a gold glove SS who stays healthy consistently for a reasonable contract. Correa is great but injury history and Bogaerts isn’t the best defensively

Let’s not act like they have added any meaningful Pitching. They need way more pitching. Runs are going to be very tough to come by given this lineup. As a Cubs fan I know what losing looks like. This team stinks.

Braves fan here. That contract will be a millstone around your necks. Totally not worth $177 million. He only had one decent offensive season, which was last year; but he still choked in the playoffs. I love his character and durability; but he’s just an average player. Can’t blame him. He’d be a fool not to take that money. Best wishes!
As bummed by this as losing Freddy Freeman last year. Hopefully Vaughn Grissom will be able to fill his position. Hope you Cubs fans realize what a gamer you have landed in Dansby!

Well done, Jed! Lock up Happer for the rest of the decade, acquire or develop a couple all-star level players (Mervis certainly could be one!) and we got a competitive team for the rest of the 2020s. Happy day for Cubs fans.
Cody Bellinger is nothing more than a rental, he will probably turn it around and gets traded in July.

Proof is in the season does the guy produce. Then it potentially was a good signing. If not then a bad signing. Cubs aren’t going anywhere this year either. So we’ll see in 2024 if they get better

I love that it's a 7-year deal instead of something like the Correa deal that is 13 years. Still real early in free agency. Justin Turner would be a great pickup at 3B. Don't know they are going to want another big contract this year though. Eovaldi is still out there, and would slot into the rotation. Kluber might be a nice 1 year option. Hated to see them lose Contreras. They are just going to have to live with no offense from catcher for a couple years. Would love to see them bring in Devers to play 3B next year. Have PCA in CF. 2024 team could be a player in the Central.
