If Silovs plays tonight he would be 6th Latvian goalie since gaining back independence in 1991 to play an NHL game. Also half of these goalies would have played for Canucks at some point. Irbe spend a season in Vancouver in late 90s and Skudra played back up for couple of years in early 2000s. No Latvian has played for Canucks since 15/16 when Ronalds Kenins failed to keep permanent roster spot.
Looks like oilers are looking at Skinner as the starter and have that 5 million backup sit around some more

How does it take the flyers org 5 months of knowing Atkinson is injured and unable to play and then say he needs a major surgery in late December. Shouldn't they have figured that out in the offseason?
Maybe check the replay on Hertl , it was a two hander to the face , haven't seen a tomahawk swing inyears now I have seen three or four this year , at least Engvall was off balance and chopped down this was the second baseball style swing I've seen .

Confused why you think Colorado is in the better position because they got Malgin for free. You realize the leafs also got malgin for free as a FA signing right? And therefore also got Hunt for nothing? Weird mental gymnastics to try to favor one team over the other in a wash of a trade
Every day I am waiting to see what the Canucks may or may not do, the media speculation around them in unreal.
With Skinner, a hometown boy, he's the Oilers goalie of the present and the future. Anything under 3 million was exactly what was hoped for, and hopefully in 3 more years he'll be signing a long term extension worth significantly more money. The Oilers should be moving Campbell's last year to pay for Skinner's next contract if everything goes well.

What is the record for latest first firing of a head coach? Strange to be at 30 games and everyone is sticking with their coaches even though it starts to get really hard to make up 5 games behind or something like that. Boudreau for instance was hired 2021-12-05.
