  1. It was do hard to find quality goaltenders back then. Belfour, Brodeur, Roy, Richter, Vernon, Osgood, and Hasek were the only damn decent ones. I'm sure I left someone out but if you had one of the goalies listed above your team was at an extreme advantage. They were years ahead of goalies just in technique and skating ability.

  2. I miss this kind of hard, grinding, fighting for every inch kind of hockey. I remember the first time I got my mum to watch hockey was during this season. This was also the first time I ever heard my mum curse like a sailor!!!! Hearing my sweet, quiet mum screaming at roy “take that you llama-faced BIIIIIIIIITCH” was worth it in itself! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 We still tease mum about that to this day. The Wings were just incredible and the talent on that team was mind boggling.

  3. Anyone else miss Gary Thorn commentating the playoff games? Something tells me he liked the wings more then NBC and doc do

  4. I agree with the one comment. It made me feel better watching good hockey played by a red wings team right now lol

  5. Thank you for all this! I have all these still on VHS in the basement somewhere that I need to watch one day! Loved this wings team!!!

  6. If I could travel back in time I would want to go to this night and be at the Joe to watch the game in person. I mean watching it on TV was great but it would have been so much better to actually be there.

  7. It's literally one of the best teams in NHL history but my god, all of the goalies in this era look terrible. Like even the big names these guys face are getting roasted

  8. The hype on the flyers in 97' was ridiculous. Sports pundits thought Detroit would get crushed by Lindros and the big, slow goons from Philly. They couldn't have been more wrong.

    23 yrs later: "what's a Lindros?"

  9. This was the Best Red Wings Team ever. After the March 26th Brawl against the Avs and also Game 5 of the 1st Round against the Blues they pulled together and got red hot and went all the way for the Cup.

  10. It’s so crazy to watch hockey back then and how light on the whistle the refs were. Good ole hockey

  11. Battle of Alberta with vernon vs fuhr is a little different when Fuhr isnt getting 6 goals a game to work with. Jesus he was awful in that series

  12. 23 years later…not a teenager anymore…..fucking goosebumbs……verny…..not sure ya can light that up in the joe…….ray lane…..his eyes blinded with booze….😂😂😂😍😍😍

  13. Not only did they sweep the Flyers, they humiliated them. Combination of Hextall playing goalie like a matador and Lindros' disappearing act. This team really does not get mentioned enough when people talk all time great teams.

  14. Privet kak dila- ahh the Russian 5- 1- 97 Red Wing Reds- my bias The Russian 5 Sergei Fedarow, Vladimir Konstantinov, Slava Kozlov, Slava Festov(brothers) and Igor Larinov-The entire Russian national hockety team.

Sergei Fedrov, Vladimir Konstantinov, Slava Koslov, Slava Felistov and Iror Larinow

Thee players got drafted back in Three of the players were drafted by the Red Wings in 1989 and 1990, and their defections from the Soviet Union were aided by the Wings

. The last two were acquired via trades from the New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks. RW coach Scotty Browman played the five together as a unit from October 1995 to June 1997. Just some facts that some may not know.

  15. I mean come on even the Wings 3rd line were awesome in these playoff games, One of the best teams in the history of the NHL 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

  16. MVP could have went to many different players but they got it right, Mike Vernon just played lights out in those games. He deserved it 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
