Every GM should be aware of the cap/roster spots number, it is currently at 3.58M. Any contract over that means you need to find contracts that cost less than the number to split the difference. If the cap goes to 98M like Seravalli mentioned the new number becomes 4.2M as long as entry level contracts dont go up, if that happens the 8M will look like a steal since an entry level contract almost covers the high player cost, just need to draft well (easier said than done). GMs also cant play in the game of future cap since as history has shown a cap increase is not automatic.

Batherson could also be apart of the sexual assault scandal. I love how that’s never mentioned as a possibility when there’s a good chance he never plays in the NHL again. And speaking on ice, Batherson is horrendous defensively he hurts the team more than he helps them. If Ottawa was smart they’d trade him for a top four defencemen and keep DeBrincat.
I love bobby and yorky forget that claude is 34 and has 2 years left at 6.5. When he inevitably is too old for top 6 minutes we will need a guy like debrincat in there. Would be a waste to trade debrincat for that reason.
