Thus far, this management team is as lost as previous regimes. Big talk, little action. Criticizing Benning for giving up draft picks yet they gifted a 2nd rounder to Chicago. They gave millions to Miller, a player you know is going to decline soon being 29 years old. They have not improved their defense which is killing them.

Find it interesting that Horvat chugs along most years at 55-60 points, then all of a sudden it's a contract year, and he turns into a superstar. Is he like Miller? Get the cash, then get fat and comfortable, and just go on cruise control. Somehow doubt it, but still…When the owner brought in Rutherford, that signal to me was no rebuild. Rutherford does not exactly have past history with that. Just the opposite, so appears Canucks will continue to spin their wheels in deep mud.
i think the only person not wanting a rebuild in vancouver is the very myopic francesco aquilini. i would put pettersson, hughes, mikheyev, bear and kuzmenko on the shelf and shop everybody else. i'm sure there's a whack of draft picks to be had and it would be nice to see the canucks make another cup run while i'm still alive.

They took 2nd tier players with top tier contracts. Vancouver continues to over pay for this kind of talent, while trying to under cut the young talent they doe have. Great teams find identity and build around it, and that is to develop the young core. To rebuild I think moving out older talent and let the guys like Hughes, Pettersson, Horvat and Demko find the identity they have and build around it. As a Avs fan, I couldn't take the talk of tearing down a roster of young talent players every year. Duchesne, O'Reilly and then even talks of Landeskog, MacKinnon after the horrible record. I think have Horvat and Pettersson as 1-2 punch would benefit the Canucks down the line, how much would they have to pay for a center like Horvat? Teams would have to over pay for players like this or draft them are the only way you can get these players. Canucks are one or two piece away, if the eat up and move some bad contracts they can turning it around in 3 years max. Avs got a nice over payment out the Duchense deal to turn fortunes around.
