I know this article is behind a paywall, but you can actually hear a really good summarization of it on the latest gold standard podcast. I think it showcases the true underlying problems this franchise actually has. The general manager has really squandered the future of this franchise and I can easily see a scenario where teams like Chicago and Arizona are able to lift themselves up out of the muck ie the avalanche, while the predators are still stuck in their mediocre purgatory. Call me crazy but I think it’s great that media outside the city is starting to question what we do and why we are stuck in this rut. Perhaps that will wake the ownership group up and have them peat behind the curtain instead of just checking the bank account of the team.

Good article for the most part but it’s like 75% hard truth and 25% outsider ignorance. The point he’s making is true for sure, but completely ignoring the fact we have a bunch of good prospects in Milwaukee etc, and not ALL of our massive contracts are horrible. I agree that Chicago is « potentially » in a better place to be a contender in a few years as opposed to us, (he’s a Chicago beat writer after all, that’s the point of the article so no hate about that) but everyone always screaming REBUILD! seems to ignore the fact that teams like Edmonton and Buffalo still haven’t won dick all after rebuilding for years. Tanking and getting a top pick doesn’t guarantee you much of anything.

Look I think the team would honestly play better at this point if they fired the entire coaching staff and just let the players go out on the ice coaching themselves, and GMDP keeps showing me more and more that it’s probably time for him to go. (And I’ve been a GMDP apologist for a long time) BUT I honestly don’t believe the franchise is as doomed as he’s claiming IF a few key changes are made. Whether those changes ever happen or not is honestly the most frustrating part of this franchise right now.
