  1. While I hate to say this, but if Dave Manson in his role as the Oilers Defensive Coach cannot get better results soon, then he should do the honourable sacrifice and resign from his position as Assistant Coach of the Oilers. In addition, while I understand that it would be difficult, GM Ken Holland should do his utmost to at least land a solid defensive defenceman who could be compared with the ex-Oilers defenceman, Adam Larson.

  2. Oilers don't check with any intensity or consistency….. they don't invade the space of the offense. I dont even blame the Goalie's its open looks they give the offense with nobody covering the open shot…. I honestly wish a coach like John Tortorella could get a hold of the dysfunction this team has as a whole…. b/c for the 2 leading scorers in all of the NHL ~Connor and Leon ~ to only have a +2 or +3 is a real indictment on how negligent they themselves are on defense…. SOFTNESS is this teams problem. This team for whatever reason refuses to get dirty. Watch Connor play defense ~ it's laughable as he goes thru the motions….This team pays lip service and is undisciplined~they are not a buttoned up group. Jay Woodcroft is not the guy to demand more…..Tortorella would have this team 10 games over .500 minimum if not at the top of the West…..This team IS NOT LEARNING !! Urgency, intensity, drive and killer instinct…. completely absent. A NEW LEADER IS NEEDED. DISCIPLINE and higher DETAILED standards WANTED IN EDMONTON!! I happen to like Jay W. a great deal too..

  3. I’ve kinda just come to the realization that our expectations for them were way higher than their abilities. This team is not even close to a contender. Re-set out expectations to a wild card team out in first round.

  4. Planning my Holland firing party now. First RSVP I expect back in my inbox is from Jay Woodcroft. And now live from channel 8, the ESPN OCHO it's the Staples McCurdy World Sports Broadcast talking shop about the only team that never stops losing to the bottom feeders of the cockey hockey sports world and the team with the ultimate paradoxical name that'll spin your head like a malfunctioning merry go round on speed dial, ready to be transported to the European hockey league at any given moment it's the Katz Doggie Doo Holland Oilers!!! Take it away , big bad Bruuuuuce and D-Man Demolition Daaaaavid!!! Happy Holidays!

  5. I'm a year-round fan of the Leafs but:
    – from the preseason to the end of the regular season I also follow the Canucks, Alberta teams, Jets, Sens and Habs
    – during the postseason I look forward to seeing a non-Habs' Canadian team (NHCT) win a Cup because as much as I respect the Habs' (particularly post-1967) success, I see it time for a NHCT to win a Cup for the 1st time since the 1989-90 Oilers

The Leafs, going into the NHL's Xmas break, are over a dozen points within a top 3 divisional spot, with 48 points over 34 games to the Wings' 35 in 32. The Jets are in a bit more of a precarious top 3 divisional spot, having lost 2 straight games to leave them with 43 points over 34 games, 3 ahead of Avs and Wild teams effectively on points tied for 3rd in that division.

The Sens and rebuilding Habs respectively are 8th and 7th in the East wildcard race, with neither team within 5 points of a playoff spot (the Sens 11 points out, with a make-up game vs the Wings as part of a back-to-back series of games at the Canadian Tire Centre late in February due to a snowstorm that wasn't expected to spare Ottawa metro area). The Canucks, with their win over the Oilers, have a 50.0 points % albeit one beating, among Canadian teams, only the Habs' 48.5 and Sens' 47.0.

These Oilers have loads of problems. After last preseason defence has continued to be a biggie although d-men don't have a monopoly on having sub-0 plus-minuses, with RNH, Holloway, Murray (all -4s), Bouchard and Puljujarvi (-12s) having particularly bad plus-minuses so far this season. Although The Oilers Fanatic YouTube man has already put up a video of his in reaction to the 5-2 home loss to the Canucks (titled "Edmonton Oilers Game Rundown | GM 35 | Vancouver Canucks @ Edmonton Oilers | Dec.23/22"), I may put out one of my own. It's so astonishing the Oilers have fallen, in just the past week, from the 1st West wildcard spot to the 2nd to being just a point out of a playoff spot. Yet that the Oilers are OUT of a playoff spot is VERY significant, with road games next week vs the Flames (Tuesday) and Kraken (Friday) before a New Year's Eve home game vs the Jets. Sure the Flames needed OT to beat the lowly Ducks but during their California road trip took all but 1 out of a possible 8 points. The Oilers over their past 4 games have taken just THREE out of a possible 8 (a 37.5 points % to the Flames' 87.5).

Who stood out for the Oilers in a good or not so good way? Derek Ryan (+1 and a goal), Hyman (-1 but an assist), Draisaitl, Foegele (both +1s, with each having assisted on goals) and McDavid (goal but a -1) all got points but with Hyman and McDavid having put up sub-0 plus-minuses. Of particular note on the plus-minus meter were Puljujarvi, Kostin, Janmark (all -2s) and RNH (-3). Did Nuge come up huge? On the plus-minus meter he sure did but on the wrong side of it.

I agree with the claim made by The Oilers Fanatic man that Delia deserves credit for keeping the Canucks in the same game as the Oilers. I also congratulate Miller, Garland, Ekman-Larsson (OEL), Petersson (Petey), Horvat, Myers, Garland and Mikheyev for the points they put up (whether goals, assists or both). Even more impressive is that the Canucks made the most of the possession time that they had even with having won just OVER ⅖ of those face-offs they'd taken.

To Lukas's claim about how "everyone" had "expected better from the Oilers this" season, there's little doubt the Oilers were supposed to have been better than they've ended up being. The Leafs, having played 1 less game than the Oilers, have 10 more points. The 38 points the Leafs, following a not-so-good October road trip to Vegas and California, have earned EQUAL the TOTAL # of points the Oilers have earned following last preseason. Perhaps the Oilers wanted to get (or more like stay at) home for Xmas, with the title of a video by the Oilers After Dark YouTube man being "Oilers turkey-legs show early as they sleepwalk into Christmas Break | Post-Game Recap -OAD Ep. 51." The Oilers thought that by playing only a 20-minute game would work wonders. Boy were they wrong.

  6. Nurse has to be hurt, I haven’t seen him hit anything but the ice for weeks now.

  7. Poor coverage in own end… Turnovers.. defense jumping into rush way to much.. love the Oilers but things need to change… Asap. Goaltender don't stand a chance. Be nice to see Kane back as well sooner the better.. hopefully second half is better.. go Oilers go

  8. Obviously their defence is not good enough and that includes forwards. They also don’t put a consistent 60 minute effort in. I think the last three or four home games have made that apparent- dominate and then get dominated. How can you lose against Anaheim & Vancouver? What a joke…
I would never a purchase a ticket and watch that garbage. I’ll watch it on TV but I’m not paying for that to support multimillion dollar ‘20 Somethings’.

  9. To win they have to score 5 every outing. The overall defensive side of the game is in the toilet. Mr. Holland it's time to make some past due hard to make decisions. You might start with the coaching.

  10. Im very proud of our team. Have made it to 9th in the West so just outside the Playoffs which is very good. Lets not worry about Vanc as they are a bit of a juggernaught – and we have competed well against the top teams like Dallas so Id say we are one of the best

  11. Campbell is not working out for us. The guys aren't hitting. There is no intensity. Need to shoot a way more. Not a playoff team right now. What happened? I'm depressed.

  12. The new mic is great, Bruce! Merry Christmas to you both! Hope the Oil gas a better New Year!

  13. Just as I predicted. When the Oilers win big then they lose 3 games after… what a no heart team…

  14. Have to think something will be done after the roster freeze, because this collection of stiffs riding the coattails on 97 and 29 is pathetic. They keep losing to teams below them in the standings, teams in the second game of a back-to-back, and to back-up goalies. 18, 22, 74 and 93 are the only players coming close to pulling their weight.

  15. This team has a major problem. The coach didn't help either, McDavid was flying and he put him with puljujarvi and Hyman??? The puck just dies on those 2's sticks wayyy too often to both be paired with McDavid. Finally near the end of the game he switched it, far too late.

  16. The problem with this team is they give up on the puck battles. I said it before if there is a 50/50 puck battle the Oilers will lose it 90% of the time.

  17. The 1st and 3rd Canuck goals are on Skinner. The 1st one was just brutal and should've been a routine save. The 3rd one he moved only enough to cover the net. He moves 2 inches more and there's no goal. Played goal over 20 years and that shot never gets around the net on me and Skinner has 4 inches on me. Subtract those 2 goals, Skinner actually played quite well. Maybe just rookie mistakes but he's got to stop those ones

  18. What a waste of a way to end the year, dallas best game of the season to play this terrible against a horrible team

  19. This team can't handle or sustain any success. 2 steps back. AGAIN!. Pathetic
