Quebec Nordiques @ Buffalo Sabres: January 31, 1990

  1. Puppa had the old aeroflex ugly pads his equipment was such a eyesore 😁😂🤣 but he got the job done . he was a solid goaltender we traded him and dave andreychuk to toronto for grant fuhr.
not really sure who got the better deal?? fuhr had a good season and a half before being traded to la for zhitnik huddy and stauber. toronto i think kept andreychuk for a year and a half before being traded to New Jersey or tampa bay ?? didn't do much in toronto .
we ended up trading back for dave andreychuk years latter for our 1999 Stanley cup run. then trading him to tampa bay for chris gratton . i was happy to see him win a Stanley cup with the lightning he deserved it

  2. man this Quebec team was bad!!.!! finished they year with 11 wins 63 losses however joe sakic had 48 goals and like 63 assists . goaltending was the problem tugnut was decent but not great

  3. Crazy to think of a Sabres team in 1990 being called soft when you think of the reputation the team would have for being rough & tumble in a few years.

  4. Cannot thank you enough for uploading this!! Ted Darling, Mike Robitaille, Milt Ellis, all the old player names!!! This is amazing! Thanks so much!!!

  5. Looking at Mario Gosselin (Nordique's goalie) and how his masks bascially has zero chin protection. Imagine taking a slapper on the cage and the mask wires just breaks your jaw from the impact. That's just nuts. I know quite a few of the goalies wore that style during this era. Pete Peters, of the caps I think also did. Man, it's so amazing nnot more of them suffered major injuries.

  6. Christian Ruuttu was one of my favorite players until the night before this game. He saw his teammate Vaive get knocked to the ice from behind and he just skated away. His teammates were very unhappy with him. His career in Buffalo went downhill and he was gone after a brutal 91-92 season.

  7. It's amazing to me the equipment they used! Especially the goalie equipment, the chest protector is almost non-existent.

  8. Crazy how the Aud wasn't even a regulation-size rink…or maybe there just wasn't a "regulation" NHL rink at the time at all. I just remember the commentators always saying the Sabres were supposedly good at battling along the boards since their home ice was so narrow compared to other rinks O_o

  9. I miss real hockey, the new hockey is almost woke, the commentators and analysts are anyway. It died when Don Cherry was fired. I will stop watching new games and only watch old games.

  10. You have Molson Canada to thank for Quebec not getting another team
Habs Nords was one he'll of a Rivalry, along with Buffalo & Toronto

  11. Gary and his mangy militia would rather have a team in Arizona, in a college arena, smaller than an OHL barn. Go figure.

  12. The NHL team I hate the most and it still stands this way even today is the Quebec Nordiques…it's as if they played the Sabres yesterday…HATE THEM!

  13. Thanks for uploading this video. Interesting to see the refs actually do their job for once. Funny a hockey player named Foligno… I wish the Nordiques would have a team again, they should of had that opportunity before Seattle or the Knights. But Bettman hates Canadian teams. Such a classic game, never knew Krupp played for Buffalo. I always thought he was an Nordiques player.
