Refs also missed the cross check to the blues player before this as well. Refs are terrible this year if they were ever good
The interference by St. Louis not called by Wes McCauley that led to their fourth goal was nearly identical to the interference called against the Leafs in game 7 last year vs. Tampa called by Wes McCauley that nullified a Leafs goal. There is a lot of history here between Keefe and Wes.

A little background on Keefe vs McCauley: McCauley was the ref who called off a John Tavares goal in last year's playoffs because of a Justin Holl pick in the O-zone. He was mad on the Kyrou goal because a St. Louis Blues player commited the same infraction and it wasn't called. The missed lumber chop to Zack Anton-Reese's mouth ws just the icing on the cake. Keefe had a legit beef last night.

Got 4 tickets 5 rows from the boards and took some buddies i havent hung out with much in years. The end was a let down for us… but was still lucky to treat my friends to such an exciting game.
Keefe was likely so riled up the first time was because Wes Mccauley was the referee for the Leafs-Lightning game 7, where Holl was called for an interference penalty when he "set a pick" which would've led to a goal. Now in this game, Jordie Benn was kinda picked by a Blues player, which (albeit kinda indirectly) led to Kyrou having an open look leading to the tying goal. I could be completely making up storylines here, and Keefe may not have actually remembered this play with this ref, but it is possible and gives decent justification for why he got so mad.

Nobody is saying Nylander isn’t a good player or that he can’t score goals.. the problem people have with Nylander is that he is too soft and could be so much better if he added some grit to his game

The NHL doesn’t want its American teams to be punished. Giving a power play to the Leafs, a Canadian team, would have led to the Blues, an American team, going shorthanded.

The reason Keefe was freaking on McCauly is because one of the Blues goals was partly because one of the Leafs got taken out of the play with a pick, the exact same play that McCauly penalized Justin Holl for late in game 7 against Tampa last year. Same ref, same play, different result but both times against the Leafs.
Your idea of a perfect game versus mine, is different. I like to see clean hits, a good, clean fight, I like to see high-sticks to the face called. Keefe wasn't crazy, he was right!

Good ol Wes was the one who called the pick and took a goal away from us in the playoffs last year that is why our coach was good to go when he did not call the pick on the blues.
