Big difference between Junior and NHL, but even in these highlights, he clearly lacks the explosiveness of the modern game. His vision is pretty clearly his biggest strength, which I really don’t think is a good thing.
Looking at these clips… there was a lot more space and time.
His skating isn’t good, on top of not having great speed period. When you combine that with playing against bigger, faster players, then the space that was there in lower leagues is completely gone. He has to make faster decisions in less space. Which has made him this player that often just plays safe and makes the safe pass. We’ve been saying his skating is shit for years, I don’t know if it’s going to get any better, and I think his entire development depends on it.
