Yeah too bad it wasn't on NBC
It was choppy at times but I think I preferred a close low scoring game. If one team gets blown out it not as intriguing. Both teams playing at 100% until the end is the best way for a winter classic to be.

NESN is a pretty powerful regional sports network and I’m quite certain Pittsburghs is, too. Both teams have great media and marketing departments and produce popular behind the scenes documentary shows (I believe ‘Behind the B’ is actually an award-winning series but am too lazy to look it up). I wouldn’t be surprised if there were intellectual property issues that arose from the side of the networks, and given how hard the league has been hit through the pandemic, I’m disinclined to think they’d see forgoing the immense cost of The Road to the Winter Classic’s production. All just theory on my part, and not particularly well-informed theory at that, but that’s the first reasonable thing that springs to mind

The ONLY outdoor game that I cared about was the first one between the Oilers and the Habs. It has become such a gimmicky thing now. I don't find the game entertaining at all. It seems like Crosby is playing in every one. Rarely a Canadian team. Forget it.

Penguins fan here! That really was such a fun game. It was extra heartbreaking when Malkin scored a second too late… which could've been an OT Winter Classic. Regardless, was a fantastic game! Both teams looked great, the atmosphere was incredible… Ullmark was a total blast to watch too!
