I’ve seen this kind of sentiment literally dozens (DOZENS!) of times, I’d like to clarify the actual reasoning behind tanking further and hopefully the idea behind #teamtank becomes more clear:

The point of the tank is to get a top 5 pick this year, because this year is a special case. Bedard would be the ultimate prize, but the players right below him in talent are a great consolation prize. The other players that will be drafted in the top 5 could all go 1st overall in their own right if it was another year.

And I’ll answer this before it gets mentioned; No, we can’t drop by 3 places, the new lottery rules changed it so that we can only drop by 2 places at the most.
If we go in to the lottery with the 4th best odds, which is still very reasonably within our reach, the odds of us dropping by 2 is very low. Dropping by 1 unlikely. Staying 4th likely. Winning 2nd unlikely. Drafting Bedard unlikely.

This player that we draft could have Pettersson level of potential. This is a prime opportunity that can’t be missed.

Still remember during Mathews draft year we were on track to draft him but the Sedins called out the team during the Cali road trip and I think we won every game it costed us Mathews
